Technical and Historical Notes

The Orb Union's weapons research leads to the creation of a new type of battleship: the Izumo class. This new battleship design also serves as the basis for the Earth Alliance's new battleship Archangel. The original Izumo is operated by Orb's noble family Sahaku, while its sister ship Kusanagi is operated by the rival Athha family. The Izumo features the same armaments on its sister ship, including a "Lohengrin" positron blaster gun, as well as several beam guns and missile launchers. In the later part of the Earth-ZAFT war, the Izumo serves as the base of operations for the devious Coordinator Rondo Ghina Sahaku, who plans to play the Alliance and ZAFT against each other for Orb's gain. His death at the hands of MBF-P03 Gundam Astray Blue Frame Second L pilot Gai Murakumo cut short his plans for domination, but they are continued by his twin sister Rondo Mina Sahaku.
