Technical
and Historical Notes |
The
Federation's Pegasus class revolutionized spaceship
design, and the White Base became legendary during
the One Year War. Refits were made to the ships of the line
during and after the war, and the Albion was the
seventh ship built in the Pegasus class. Though similar
in many respects to the other ships of the class, the Albion
boasted some design improvements. These improvements
consisted of increased armaments in the form of anti-air/ground
laser guns, as well as a laser rocket system that could
be used to break free from the Moon's gravity well. The
Albion was dispatched under the command of Eiphar
Synapse in October UC 0083 to pick up two prototype mobile
suits from Anaheim Electronics: the RX-78GP01
Gundam "Zephyranthes" and the RX-78GP02A
Gundam "Physalis." Both mobile suits were
taken to Australia's Torrington base for testing as part
of the secret Gundam Development Project.
Unbeknownst
to the Federation, a renegade Zeon fleet commanded by Aiguille
Delaz had learned of the existence of the secret mobile
suits and had planned to steal them as part of Operation
Stardust. Zeon ace pilot Anavel Gato (aka 'The Nightmare
of Solomon') infiltrated the Torrington base and stole the
GP02A from the Albion's
mobile suit hangar. With rookie pilot Kou Uraki in control
of the GP01, the Albion is
assigned by General John Kowen to pursue Gato and retrieve
the GP02A. The Albion pursued
Gato to the Kinbareid diamond mine used by Zeon soldiers in Africa,
but Gato escaped into space with an H.L.V.
The Albion followed Gato into space and docked at
Von Braun city when Delaz made a public speech to show the
GP02A as an example of the
Federation's hypocrisy. Afterwards, the Albion patrolled
the area around Konpeitoh during the Federation Forces
naval review. It was at this time that Gato struck at the
fleet with the GP02A's nuclear
armament. Afterwards, the Albion docked at the Anaheim
Electronics repair ship La
Vie En Rose to steal the new RX-78GP03 "Dendrobium Orchis" and "Stamen"
components in an attempt to stop a Zeon colony drop. Operation
Stardust ended with the colony hitting North America and
the deaths of most of the members of the Delaz Fleet. Afterwards,
Captain Synapse was executed for violating orders and stealing
the GP03, while most of his
crew were reassigned to the new Titans task force.
