Big O

The Big O

Created by Kazuyoshi Katayama (Appleseed) and Keiichi Satou (Saint Seiya), The Big O is a unique anime inspired by Batman: The Animated Series. It takes place in Paradigm City, where 40 years ago a mysterious event occurred that caused everyone to lose their memories. The show stars Roger Smith, top Negotiator in Paradigm, who pilots the powerful "MegaDeus" robot Big O. Roger is frequently assisted by the android R. Dorothy Waynewright, former boss and member of the military police, Dan Dastun, and a mysterious woman who goes by the name Angel. The Big O's original set of 13 episodes premiered in 1999 on WOWOW satellite television in Japan and later aired in the U.S. on Cartoon Network's Toonami block in 2001. Positive reaction and the cliffhanger ending to the series resulted in a second set of 13 episodes being produced, which aired on SUN-TV in Japan and Cartoon Network's Adult Swim in the U.S. in 2003. Both seasons were released in the U.S. on DVD, but the series is now out of print following the 2012 closure of Bandai Entertainment.
