Stage 11: Battle for Narita

Summary

Darlton is informed that only 20% of their forces are still active after the landslide. Lloyd tells Suzaku that there's information about the Black Knights being present, so he may have a chance to fight. At the G-1 Base it's reported that Cornelia survived the landslide, but she's in a compromised position because of the rear support units. Elsewhere, Kallen uses the Guren's radiation wave to kill Kewell before he can eject from his Sutherland. Lelouch orders Kallen to move and has other forces close in on Cornelia. Nearby, Tohdoh launches in his Burai Kai, along with the Four Holy Swords: Ryoga Senba, Kousetsu Urabe, Shogo Asahina and Nagisa Chiba. Tohdoh and the Holy Swords destroy several Sutherlands and immediately close in on Cornelia. Guilford engages Tohdoh and tells Cornelia to escape. Nearby, Lelouch and several Burais are pinned down by Sutherland fire. Tohdoh calls Katase and tells him they can turn the situation around if they prevent the main Britannian force from advancing. Elsewhere, Darlton and his men come under fire from the main JLF base, but he wants to pull back and rendezvous with Cornelia. Several officers ask Euphemia to move the G-1 Base, but she refuses because it's acting as a hospital and is under orders from Cornelia not to move. Lloyd calls, and Suzaku begs for permission to go out. The officers accuse them of wanting to take the credit for rescuing Cornelia and say that one machine can't turn the situation around. Lloyd says that because they're irregulars, it doesn't hurt if they try and fail, so Euphemia approves the request. Guilford tosses a chaos bomb, but Tohdoh and the Holy Swords disperse and dodge the attack. One of the Holy Swords asks about going after Cornelia, and Tohdoh responds that he has to hope Zero has a plan. Viletta reports Zero's projected course to Guilford, and he sees that the Black Knights are moving to the area they were planning to lure the JLF to. Elsewhere, Cornelia's path through a trench is blocked by Kallen. At the mountain base, Suzaku launches in the Lancelot, which has been equipped with a land board. As Kallen attacks, Cornelia sees that the Guren isn't a typical custom unit. Lelouch appears at the top of the trench and asks Cornelia to surrender. Cornelia instead attacks Kallen with her lance, but Kallen uses the radiation surge to destroy it. Cornelia ejects the Gloucester's right arm, and Lelouch opens fire and destroys Cornelia's machine gun. Elsewhere, Guilford and his men are held at bay by Tohdoh and the Holy Swords. Cornelia calls him and tells him and Darlton to assist Euphemia, because she has no intention of surrendering. Just as Cornelia is about to charge forward in her armless Gloucester, Suzaku blasts into the trench with his VARIS rifle and attacks Kallen, while Cornelia uses her slash harkens on Lelouch. Kallen blocks Suzaku's shots, but unstable ground causes to Guren to fall of the side of the mountain and ruin its right arm. Lelouch orders a retreat, and Cornelia orders Suzaku to chase him. Suzaku damages Lelouch's Burai, forcing him to eject.

Suzaku thinks to himself that although Zero saved lives, his methods are wrong. Suddenly, C.C. appears and touches the Lancelot's leg. Lelouch asks what she's doing, and she tells him to escape. Suzaku is beset with strange images of people with the same mark as C.C., as well as images of his dead father, Genbu. Lelouch asks again what she's doing, and she tells him she's showing the Lancelot pilot some unpleasant images, but she doesn't know what he's seeing. Lelouch touches C.C.'s shoulder and begins to see images from the past, including C.C. with a symbol under her left breast. Overwhelmed by images of shrieking skulls, Suzaku goes berserk and wildly fires his VARIS rifle into the air. C.C. is hit with several rock fragments and urges Lelouch to escape. Tohdoh decides to retreat, as does Cornelia. As the Black Knights cheer their victory, Kallen dreads the idea of Zero being captured. In a cave, Lelouch tends to C.C.'s wounds and concludes that she isn't human. She begins to talk while unconscious, revealing her real name. At the G-1, Darlton reports to Cornelia that the JLF escaped. They also recovered the Lancelot, but they had to wait for its energy filler to run out because it went berserk. In the cave, C.C. wakes up and tells Lelouch it's pointless to try saving her. He says he's learned something about her and notes that her real name is much nicer than C.C. She begins to cry and says she's forgotten everything. Lelouch issues what he says will be his only "thank you," and C.C. says it's the first time anyone has ever thanked her. She asks him to nicely say her real name again, and though he says it, she tells him his delivery was awful and without emotion. As the researchers drive out of Narita, their path is blocked by an insane Jeremiah, who proclaims that he isn't Orange and collapses on the street. Kallen responds to Lelouch's phone call and comes to the cave to pick him up. She asks who C.C. is, and Lelouch explains that she's an important comrade.

Commentary

The cliffhanger from the last episode continues, with Lelouch moving in and placing Cornelia in a bad position. This time, the tables have turned and she underestimated him. His plan proceeds smoothly, until Suzaku launches in the Lancelot. In the ensuing battle, we see that the Guren is definitely beyond the Sutherland and can fight on the same level as the Lancelot. We also get to see the famed Tohdoh in action, and though he's using a Burai Kai, he's a skilled fighter. Suzaku and Lelouch both see strange images when they come in contact with C.C., including nuns and other people with the same symbol on their forehead as her. There's also images that look like they're from the Middle Ages, along with skulls and images of Genbu that drive Suzaku mad. Lelouch manages to find out C.C.'s real name, but we unfortunately don't get to hear it. Now that the Black Knights have achieved a military victory, Cornelia is sure to be hunting more aggressively after Zero.
