Picture Drama 10: Turn 0.923

Review by Chris Guanche

Summary

Inside the dirty room they share, C.C. teases Kallen for collecting pictures of Lelouch, but Kallen insists that they're just for surveillance. C.C. asks what they're going to do for dinner, and Kallen is surprised she's already thinking about that. She reminds C.C. they rented this room as a frail older sister and cute younger sister, so she thinks C.C. should act her part. C.C. jokes that she won't get better without nourishment, so Kallen tells her to heat up the curry rice in the pot. C.C. then asks when Four Holy Swords member Kousetsu Urabe is coming, and Kallen accuses her of being more interested in the food that Urabe will bring. C.C. comments that although Urabe has no sense of taste, he at least makes miso soup by hand. She thinks Kallen could learn something from him, and Kallen counters that she doesn't want to hear that from someone who can't even boil rice. C.C. says she can do anything she wants, so Kallen suggests cleaning up the room. C.C. says she'll clean it when she can't stand it any longer and blames Kallen for it being so dirty. Kallen then shows her a picture of Lelouch and his brother Rolo playing piano at school, with Milly, Rivalz and Shirley in the background. C.C. comments that he's been playing piano since he was three and is quite good. C.C. looks at a picture of Lelouch, Shirley and Rivalz working on homework and comments that it's nostalgic. They then look at another picture, which depicts Lelouch walking away victorious from a chess match and taking a Britannian noble's money and clothes. Kallen says there's something she has to confirm with Lelouch, and C.C. asks her what she'll do after she confirms that. They're interrupted when the phone rings with a call from Urabe. Kallen passes on the news from Urabe that the preparations for the airship are complete, so the operation will begin soon. C.C. says to herself that she'll make time move again for Lelouch; Kallen says to herself that Lelouch has to return to being Zero while loading a gun.

Commentary

Like the second season, the picture dramas take a one year timeskip and present us with a clip set just before Turn 1 of Code Geass R2. In this clip, we learn two things about C.C. and Kallen: they've been hiding out under assumed identities, and they're both slobs. That C.C. is a slob was already evident in the TV series, but I'm kind of surprised Kallen is the same. I'm sure that C.C. playing the "frail older sister" had to be Kallen's idea, since she hated playing the part of a weak girl at school. What Kallen wants to confirm with Lelouch probably relates to what she asked him at gunpoint while she got him alone during his rescue operation. There's not much going on here, but it is interesting to see the prelude to the second season, as well as some more interaction between Kallen and C.C.
