Fafner

Originally airing in July 2004, Fafner is a sci-fi mecha anime. The story follows Kazuki Makabe, pilot of the giant robot Fafner. Using the Fafner, he must protect his home, the secluded Tatsumiya Island, from alien invaders called Festum. Many challenges arise and only Kazuki and his friends can make their island a paradise once again. Produced by Studio XEBEC (Love Hina, Nadesico) and directed by Nobuyoshi Habara (DN Angel), with character designs by Hisashi Hirai (Gundam SEED, Infinite Ryvius) and mechanical designs by Naohiro Washio (Stellvia). The TV series was released on DVD in the U.S. by Geneon Entertainment, but it has fallen out of print following Geneon's withdrawal from the anime market. The prequel special Right of Left was released only in Japan in 2005, and a new movie entitled Heaven and Earth was released in 2010.
