Episode 14: Undercover Mission! Learn the Gundam Force's Secrets!

Review by Chris Guanche

February 10, 2004

Summary

Shute, Captain, Zero and Bakunetsumaru look at the Spirit Egg. Shute says that it's something else, and Zero says it is the savior of Lacroa. Bakunetsumaru becomes tearful and thinks about Lacroa and the three triplets. He says those boys risked their lives for them and asks everyone if they've forgotten them so quickly. Bakunetsumaru touches the Egg, and Zero snatches it away from him. Bakunetsumaru tells him he should just use the Egg to save Lacroa, and Zero says it must be awakened. Captain tries to scan it, but the Egg is impervious to his scans. Bakunetsumaru sees that Zero doesn't know how to awaken the Egg, and he calls Zero useless. They each pull out their swords and begin to fight. As they fight, Chief Haro calls Captain to tell him they've detected a small Dark Axis dimensional portal opening near them. Two Zako soldiers disguised as GM reporters approach them and say they've come for an interview. The Zakos think they've fooled everyone, but everyone else knows it's a trick. Zero wants to fight them, but Shute suggests playing along to find out what they want. Bakunetsumaru suddenly storms by them on Entengo and agrees to grant them an interview. Zero and the others wonder if Bakunetsumaru actually believes the Zakos are who they claim to be. The Zakos ask who is the coolest Gundam, and Zero and Bakunetsumaru argue with each other about that. They ask Shute about Captain, and Shute says that Captain is his best friend. He recalls the day he met Captain when Captain saved his life. He explains how he repaired Captain and activated his Soul Drive. He also discusses how Captain first beat back Zapper. Zero then butts in to talk about his swordsmanship and his nobility. He describes himself as the savior of Lacroa and the most powerful Gundam of all. The Zakos tell Zero they have some surprise footage of him, and he is flattered.

The Zakos show Zero footage of when he was stuck in a ball of glue with Captain, along with the time he had an egg beater for a sword, as well as when he smashed into a tunnel on a train. Zero can't believe he did those things, and Bakunetsumaru laughs at him. He explains to the Zakos that wherever he is, he will always fight to destroy the Dark Axis. The Zakos tell Bakunetsumaru they have footage of him as well, and they show him footage of himself being knocked around and expressing his fear of ghosts to Captain. Bakunetsumaru is embarrassed and says the footage is of an impostor. Zero laughs at him, and they begin to fight again. They knock their weapons into the air and end up with each other's weapons. The Zakos discuss their plan, and Shute asks them what that means. He says everyone agrees the Dark Axis is weak, and the Zakos object. Shute and Zero ask the Zakos how they could know so much about the Dark Axis. They show Shute footage of the Dark Axis dimension, and Chief Haro watches as the Zakos give away all their secrets. The Zakos talk about Zapper, Grappler and Destroyer, and Shute asks if they are the most powerful guys in the Dark Axis. The Zakos say that Commander is the most powerful of them all. The Spirit Egg suddenly begins to glow, and the Zako soldiers snatch it. Shute and the others surround them, and the Egg suddenly transforms into a fluffy white creature. The puffball creature suddenly breathes fire on the Zakos and sends them running. Zero can't believe that's the savior of Lacroa, and the creature breathes fire on them. On the Zako Zako Hour, the Zakos discuss the uselessness of the Komusai, along with the Zakrello Gate and the parallel worlds it leads to.

Commentary

The Dark Axis seem to be getting desperate if they're resorting to such half-baked plans to learn the secrets of the Gundams. Instead, all they really accomplish is giving away all their own secrets to the SDG forces. The second part of this episode feels mostly useless, since it is in essence a clip show. The only event of real importance is the transformation of the Spirit Egg into some fluffy Pokemon-type creature that breathes fire. Also, this episode marks the return of the Zako Zako Hour, following its absence during the three part Lacroa arc.
