Review by Chris Guanche

Summary

Bakunetsumaru still can't believe that the puffball is the savior of Lacroa, and Shute says it looks angry. Bakunetsumaru says that he's not worried even if it is angry, and the puffball breathes fire on him. Keiko comes out and pets the puffball, and Shute explains that it's Zero's pet. At the SDG base, the inventor Kao Lyn and Chief Haro supervise flight tests for the new Gundam named GunEagle. Kao Lyn is impressed, but he thinks GunEagle needs some improvements. In the Dark Axis dimension, Zapper, Grappler and Destroyer equip new flight packs and prepare to attack Neotopia with their new Komusai. Zako Soldiers accidentally drop control horns on the Komusai, sending it out of control. The Komusai flies through the Zakrello Gate, and Commander orders them to get it back. Bakunetsumaru tries to play with the puffball, but it scorches him and Zero. Captain gets a call from the SDG base, and Zero places the puffball in Shute's workshop so they can face the threat. Zapper and the others wonder what to do about the Komusai, and the Gundam Force appears. The Komusai attacks with bombs and bits. Zero uses his Super Magical Violet Tornado, and the Komusai spins out of control and drops bombs everywhere. The puffball appears in front of the Komusai and shoots fire at it. The Komusai escapes with the puffball and flies too high for Zero to follow. Captain says they can't fly, but he knows who can. He calls the SDG base and requests the deployment of GunEagle. Kao Lyn objects because GunEagle hasn't been tested in combat, but Captain says it's an emergency. Chief Haro agrees with Captain, and GunEagle prepares to launch. Kao Lyn tells him to be careful, and GunEagle tells him he worries too much. GunEagle then gets onto the launch catapult and takes off.

The Komusai continues to fly out of control with the puffball stuck on it. Zapper and the others wonder what to do, and they are suddenly knocked aside by GunEagle. He pulls in ahead of the Komusai and begins firing his vulcans. The Komusai's bits then fire at him and allow the Komusai to escape. GunEagle spots the Gundam Force on two Gunperrys, and he reports in to Captain. GunEagle says that with his flight abilities he's better than some fancy knight or an old bike. GunEagle prepares to destroy the Komusai, and Captain tells him he has to save the puffball because it is the spirit of Lacroa. GunEagle says he will do his best to save the puffball and take off. GunEagle flies behind the Komusai and fires missiles to destroy the bits. He pulls out his beam rifle, and Captain orders him to fire his missiles on a single fight path instead. The bits line up on a single path, and Captain fires his beam rifle and destroys them all on a line. GunEagle pulls up ahead of the Komusai to look for the puffball. He finds the puffball hiding inside the barrel of a cannon. Zero thinks that the puffball must think of GunEagle as an enemy. Destroyer fires missiles at GunEagle, but they hit the Komusai and cause it to spiral towards the ground. Captain orders GunEagle to push the Komusai upwards before it crashes into the water. GunEagle doesn't think he has enough energy left, but he moves in and activates his aerial stinger. As his energy runs out, he slams into the Komusai slices into the gun barrel to let the puffball escape. Zero catches the puffball, and the Komusai crashes into the water. GunEagle runs out of energy, and Bakunetsumaru catches him as he falls through the sky. Zero thanks GunEagle for his work, and GunEagle says he is surprised that the puffball is some creature that says fenn all the time. Shute decides tat the puffball's name will be Fenn. GunEagle makes fun of Fenn, and Fenn breathes fire on him. On the Zako Zako Hour, the Zakos discuss their new flight packs and the new Komusai.

Commentary

As is the case with the regular Gundam series, you have to introduce new Gundams throughout the course of the show. SD is no different, and this time we're introduced to the flight attack unit GunEagle. Though his design is a bit different, he clearly is based on the Nu Gundam from Char's Counterattack. GunEagle is a rookie, and as such he's cocky and thinks he's better than the other Gundams. Despite being a rookie, he saves the day and rescues Fenn. Now that he's around, maybe it will add some new dynamics to the Gundam Force. Also, now that there's more Gundams than Dark Axis villains, some new villain will inevitably show up.
