Summary

Captain makes multiple attempts to activate his soul drive, but nothing happens. At Dark Axis, Zapper Zaku makes a report to Commander Sazabi about the failed operation. He has a Zako display an image of Captain, and Commander Sazabi is surprised that a Gundam was in that dimension. Zapper Zaku starts babbling and is blasted by Commander Sazabi's funnels. Commander Sazabi declares that he won't tolerate another failure, so Zapper Zaku orders his Zako minions to find Captain. On Neotopia, Shute searches through a database of robots and is unable to find Captain. He wonders where Captain is and if he'll ever see him again. Suddenly, Captain comes crashing through the hole in Shute's roof. Shute doesn't recognize Captain because his armor has been disguised to create a civilian appearance. Captain then closes his face mask, and Shute is overjoyed to see him. Captain explains that the existence of combat mobile citizens is classified, but he needs Shute's help. Captain makes several punching poses, but nothing happens. He thought seeing Shute would activate the soul drive, but it didn't. Captain doesn't understand why the soul drive activated when it did, but now it won't. Shute touches the soul drive and comments that it feels warm, but not too hot. Shute wants to practice punching with Captain until the soul drive activates, so they fly out of the workshop. Four Zakos enter Neotopia through the Zakrello Gate and start searching for Captain, but all they find are various GMs. Shute encourages Captain while he practices his punches, but nothing happens. Shute wonders if Captain is trying too hard. The dejected Zakos come across Shute and Captain out in a field, but they don't think Captain's a match because he's in disguise. Shute and Captain lay down in the grass, and Shute laughs when Captain asks if that'll turn on the soul drive. Shute comments on the shapes of clouds, but at first Captain doesn't understand. Captain joins in and starts identifying shapes, and at that point the soul drive activates. Several Gunperrys land nearby and unload multiple GM Snipers, who tell Captain he has to return to base. Shute wants to keep trying to activate the soul drive, but Captain tells him that orders are orders. Shute asks if he'll ever see Captain again, but Captain ignores him and boards the Gunperry.

The Zakos report back to Zapper Zaku that they can't find Captain, so he fires his weapons in anger. He gets on the Komusai and heads through the Zakrello Gate to search for Captain. On the Gunperry, Chief Haro asks Captain why he revealed himself to Shute and if it had anything to do with the soul drive. Chief Haro forbids any contact with Shute, but Captain contends that Shute is his friend and that their time has changed him, which he believes is connected to the soul drive. Chief Haro notes that being friends with Shute would put him in danger, so he thinks Captain shouldn't have any contact. An alarm sounds when Dark Axis forces attack in the harbor district. The Super Dimensional Guard launches the re-equip ring for the first time in the field, and Captain spots Shute following him. Captain jumps out of the Gunperry and flies through the re-equip ring, which swaps out his civilian disguise with his weapons. Captain then flies off at high speed for the battlefield, with Shute following on the ground. GM workers at the harbor flee from the Zakos, which Zapper Zaku hopes will gain Captain's attention. Captain arrives and opens fire on the Zakos, but he quickly comes under attack from Zapper Zaku. Shute skates by a police blockade and enters the harbor. Zapper Zaku attaches a control horn to a large crane and has it attack Captain. The crane smacks Captain, sending his beam rifle flying away. Zapper gains control of two additional cranes and has them all attack Captain. They all drop their containers onto Captain, causing him to struggle under the weight. Zapper Zaku lands on the containers and targets his weapons at Captain. Shute reveals himself, and when Captain tells him to leave, Shute refuses. Shute tells Captain he can do it, which causes the soul drive to activate. Captain blasts free and jumps into the air, where he punches Zapper Zaku. The control horns are removed from the cranes, and they toss the Komusai through the Zakrello Gate. Shute congratulates Captain, and Chief Haro watches the battle on video. Later, Shute hears a knock on his workshop door, and Captain flies in through the hole. Captain tells Shute that Chief Haro has recognized that Shute is needed to activate the soul drive, so they can see each other whenever they want. Shute's mom gets home, so he wants to introduce Captain to his family. Captain introduces himself as Shute's friend.

Commentary

Continuing from the first episode, we find that Captain can't activate his soul drive, which is an essential weapon in fighting the Dark Axis. He wants Shute's help in activating it, and as it turns out, he's right. That's the hook for having a kid be in the series - he's necessary as a cheerleader to help Captain fight. We're also introduced to the mysterious Commander Sazabi, who punishes Zapper Zaku for his previous failure. Given how incompetent he is, Zapper Zaku is in for more punishment. Commander Sazabi's comments reveal that there are Gundams in other dimensions, but this being Gundam and all, that's no surprise. SDG's Chief Haro, a man with a Haro head, doesn't approve of Captain being friends with Shute, but he's forced to reevaluate when he sees proof that Shute is needed to help activate the soul drive. Overall, there's nothing particularly interesting going on here with such simplistic storytelling.
