SD Gundam
Though Gundam is usually known for its serious storylines and drama, it also has a ridiculous comedic side as well. Beginning in 1988, SD (Super Deformed) Gundam features misproportioned characters and mobile suits running around in all sorts of comedic misadventures. These comedic sequences range from parodies of events from the regular series to such oddities as Gundam hotels and SD Olympics. The first SD release consisted of SD Gundam Mk I-V, which were all released between 1988 and 1990. The SD craze led to many more releases, including manga and the continuing series of games across various consoles. After a long hiatus, Bandai revived the franchise with the 2003 children's TV series SD Gundam Force, which marked the only U.S. exposure to the SD brand. In 2010, Bandai released a movie and TV series SD Gundam Sangokuden: Brave Battle Warriors, which is an adaptation of the classic Chinese story Romance of the Three Kingdoms. SD releases aside from SD Gundam Force are not currently available in the U.S. and are not likely to be released.
