Episode 22: Harry's Misfortune

Review by Chris Guanche

Summary

Dianna Counter soldiers investigate a house that has been abandoned by the Moonrace civilians. On the Soleil, Phil sits down next to Miran in the cafeteria and says that the escaping settlers is causing quite a problem. He says that eventually the Earth people will notice, and Miran says it's understandable people would escape because of the lack of food. Kihel summons Harry and asks him to discuss the situation. He tells her Phil thinks that the escaped settlers are gathering at the Militia spaceship. Kihel asks Harry to fulfill his mission to find Kihel, and he says he can't leave her at a time like this. She tells him he is the only one she trusts and asks him to return quickly. Elsewhere, Sochie uses her Kapool to shake a chestnut tree. Dianna pinches herself with a chestnut, and Loran explains that Kihel makes sweet chestnuts. At the excavation site, Guin and Sid watch as an airship hauls in a beam rifle and a Gundam hammer. Guin explains they were found at Vicinity and that he brought them over for Loran to use. At the Soleil, Harry is about to take off in his flight booster equipped SUMO when Pou asks what he is doing. He says he is on a mission for Dianna and takes off. He lands his SUMO in a hidden area and changes into civilian clothes. He uses a personal flight booster to jump onto a truck carrying Moonrace settlers. The truck arrives at the excavation site, and Harry meets Horace and explains he wants to sell fruits. Sid says a forklift is broken and asks Harry's help in fixing it. Harry grabs a sledgehammer and pounds a piece of metal into place so that the forklift can work. As Harry works, he wonders if Dianna is in the area. Horace and Ladderum supervise tests of the spaceship's engines, and Harry is surprised by the progress. Horace and Sid explain the ship is probably older than the Turn A and was protected by nanoskin. Harry mentions that the Turn A seems similar to a SUMO, and Sid wonders if the Turn A can help speed up the work. Loran uses the Turn A to load supplies onto the Gallop and is helped by Bruno in a Godwin. Jacop runs up to Loran and tells him that he's been summoned to the excavation site.

Pou's Wodom is outfitted with an external generator booster, and she takes off. At the excavation site, the Turn A is used as a power source to test the spaceship's engines. The engines work perfectly, and the test is a success. Harry spots Dianna and asks her to come with him. He tells her she must leave because the valley will be attacked, but she says she wants to live with the people of Earth. He insists that she come, and she threatens to reveal to everyone who he is. Loran runs up and pushes Harry away, but Dianna explains who he is. She says he came to warn them about the attack, and Loran asks Harry if he is going to stay with them and join the Militia. Nearby, Bruno and Jacop use their Godwins to unload the beam rifle delivered by one of the airships. Pou attacks with her Wodom, and Bruno and Jacop attack her. Their firepower is limited, and they decide to give up when mobile artillery and Kapools join the fight. Harry leaves Dianna in Loran's care and runs off to get his SUMO. Sochie and Gavane get into their suits and run to join the battle. Loran gets into the Turn A and grabs his shield. Pou fires her beam cannon towards the valley and destroys large pieces of land. Loran rushes into the battle and pulls out his beam saber. Pou fires again, and Loran generates an I field to protect himself and the Militia. Pou jumps into the air to attack Loran, and Harry knocks her down with his SUMO. She asks him what he's doing, and he says that Moonrace people are in the valley. She asks him if he is willing to die for a traitor and fires again. Harry uses his SUMO's I field generator to deflect Pou's blast. The SUMO's right arm is destroyed, which temporarily disables Harry. The blimp arrives with the beam rifle, and Loran grabs it and shoots at Pou. Her Wodom is damaged, and she cries and retreats with Harry. Later, Loran and Dianna look at the spaceship, and Dianna says Guin will be happy. Guin makes an announcement on the loudspeaker and asks everyone to make the final push to excavate the ship. He says that the ship will be named after the man who discovered it and dubs it the Willghem.

Commentary

Harry gets to go on a bit of adventure here, and he trades in big red glasses for big white ones! It's not like he's a freak, but I guess he doesn't like people seeing his face. Maybe he read a Dark History file about a certain masked mobile suit pilot. After setting out, he seems to know that he's looking for Dianna. I wonder how and when he realized that Kihel was pretending to be Dianna. He tries to convince her to come back with him, but she makes it clear that she wants to live with the people of Earth. Loran goes into battle with his beam rifle and a handy I field generator to deflect Pou's assaults. Bruno and Jacop get new mobile suits, which seem to be similar to their old Gozzos. The spaceship seems to be ready to use and gets a name. Will Game should have thrown his lot in with the Militia instead of what he did. He made his choice, and now his ship belongs to Guin.
