Episode 45: Guin the Traitor

Review by Chris Guanche

August 7, 2002

Summary

Kihel dresses in Dianna's clothes and visits Harry in the hospital. Following the battle, he became exhausted from fighting. He immediately recognizes Kihel, and she asks how he knew she wasn't Dianna. He explains that after Dianna woke up from stasis she had a sadness in her that he could feel. He knows that Kihel is different, but he thinks she is starting to take on Dianna's sadness. In Gaingnham, Fran and Miashei run around and take pictures of people. They stop when they see a bus surrounded by a large crowd. The bus is filled with people that Dianna has released from stasis. Old children greet their younger parents, and Teteth's mother searches for her daughter. In another part of the city, Loran and Sochie visit a shopping center. Several kids recognize Sochie as being from Earth and ask her a bunch of questions about Earth. On the Willghem, Guin, Sid, Michael and Yanny examine data copied from the Dark History. Detailed mobile weapon specs are part of the record, including the Nether Gundam and Fuunsaiki. Michael thinks that if they can mass produce their own mobile suit it will greatly advance Ameria's technology. Elsewhere, Gym causes a panic throughout the city by flying around on Merrybell's Bandit. They land at the palace and go inside to meet with Dianna. She asks him to hand over all the mobile suits he has excavated, but he refuses. He says he found them and asks who else could even use him. Dianna tells him there will be serious consequences if he keeps using the Turn X. Merrybell becomes angry and grabs Gym's sword. She runs up to Dianna and holds the sword up to her head. Dianna tells her that if she is going to do it she should just do it and stop nagging. Gym takes Merrybell and leaves. She tells him he should revolt against Dianna, but he says too many people support her. He says the problem is there are two Diannas, so Merrybell thinks they should kill both of them. Out of nowhere, Guin pulls up in his car and greets Gym and Merrybell.

Lily drinks Moon cocoa and receives a visit from Kihel. Lily says she thinks Kihel is amazing for posing as Dianna, and she thinks they should be friends. Sid meets with Dianna, and she asks him to find Loran because she wants him to steal the Turn X from Gym's ship. On the Willghem, Bruno and Jacop put on uniforms because they want to join Dianna Counter. Bruno shows off his Dianna tattoo, while Jacop shows off Harry style red sunglasses. Guin tells them to get ready to takeoff for Earth, and he wants Yanny to find Loran. Loran returns to the ship, and Guin pours him a drink and introduces him to Merrybell. Loran panics when the ship suddenly begins to move, and Guin says they are going back to Earth. He says he will use Moonrace technology to restore the entire world to the pre-Dark History civilization. Loran doesn't want to go, so he kicks Merrybell and runs away. He takes the Turn A from the mobile suit hangar and pulls in in front of the bridge. He tells Guin to turn back for the Moon or he will force him back. Guin laughs and tells him not to try what he can't do. Loran powers up the Turn A and starts pushing the Willghem back, but the ship pushes forward. Loran is shot at, and he is surprised to see it came from Gym's Turn X. Guin tells him to surrender again and says he is going to use Gym's help to restore Earth. Gym says that fighting allows creativity, and that by stopping fighting Dianna is stifling creativity. Dianna and Sid watch the event on video, and Sid blames himself for copying the Dark History data. Gym knocks Loran off the ship and attacks him with the Shining Finger. Loran tries to use a powerful double beam saber attack, but he is shocked when the Turn X breaks apart into various components. The Turn X parts individually attack Loran and overpower him. To escape, he ejects the Core Fighter from the pelvic area and flies away. Gym recombines the Turn X to retrieve the Turn A.

Commentary

Well, quite a lot of things developed in this episode. I was suspicious of Guin last episode when he wanted Sid to secretly copy all the data of the Dark History. After all, throughout this whole series Guin has demonstrated that he does things for his own advancement. Switching sides and joining with Gym is to be expected of someone like him. However, he must certainly know better than to think Loran would go along with his plan and go back to Earth with him and Gym. The battle between Loran and Gym is quite good, and we see just how powerful the Turn X really is. Aside from having the Shining Gundam's Shining Finger, the Turn X can split into various pieces, and those pieces can each attack. That power certainly surprised Loran and forced him to escape conveniently in a Core Fighter we never knew about until now. Actually, he seems to discover some new ability almost every episode now. It looks like the final battle for this series will be heading for Earth, which is quite a contrast from all the other series.
