Movies
Compilation movies and Gundam seem to go hand in hand. First, there was the Mobile Suit Gundam trilogy of 1981-82 which compressed the original 1979 series into 3 movies. In 1992, the Gundam 0083 compilation movie Last Blitz of Zeon was released. The year 1998 saw the dual release of the 08th MS Team movie Miller's Report and the Gundam Wing movie Endless Waltz. That's not the end of Gundam compilation movies, as evidenced by Yoshiyuki Tomino's 2002 movies Earth Light and Moonlight Butterfly, which compressed 50 episodes of TV story into two films. While the original Gundam movies were a result of increased interest in TV series reruns, these movies were probably made for the fans, since the TV series has a definitive conclusion. Having ended a theatrical run, the movies are now both available on DVD. Like the series, the movies are not available in the U.S., and only time will tell if they ever will be available.
