Summary

Out in the ocean, Sally's rebels find the Wing Gundam hidden deep underwater. At the same time, an OZ submarine approaches Sally's ship. The OZ sub launches several Cancers to search for the Wing Gundam, but they come under attack from Sally's Pisces units. The Cancers are wiped out and the Pisces suits destroy the sub by planting explosives on it. Sally wonders what Heero was thinking by leaving the Wing Gundam on Earth. As Tubarov supervises the mass production of a new mobile doll, Doctor J complains that Tubarov treats the space colonies as if they exist only to be plundered like the old world colonies on Earth. Professor G loads the disassembled remains of the Shenlong Gundam onto a truck, and Tubarov tells him to get rid of those parts because he doesn't need them anymore. Professor G drives the truck to a secret area where Master O is working on rebuilding both the Deathscythe and Shenlong Gundams. Elsewhere, Zechs meets with colony representatives and asks them why they need armaments. They go over intelligence about Sally's guerilla activities and say they want to protect the colonies because disputes will continue on Earth. A representative says they need to increase their strength to prevent more rebels from appearing. Duo watches a news report about lunar mobile suit production intended to defend against an invasion. Duo thinks that's a bunch of crap, but a young OZ soldier named Hilde Schbeiker tells him he's wrong. Hilde tells him that the colony's students are volunteering at the OZ mobile suit plant, so Duo jokes that he might volunteer himself. Hilde gives him an application and tells him the next exam is in a week. Heero and Wufei are transported as prisoners to the Lunar Base. Wufei wonders if they'll be used as test pilots for new suits, but Heero thinks they could also be used as targets. Trowa looks at OZ computer files and wonders what they're planning. Hilde spots Duo at the colony's spaceport and asks to see his application since she told him to come back next week. Duo responds by throwing his duffel bag at her and hijacking a Leo. Duo exits the colony and immediately comes under attack from Hilde, who destroys his rifle. Duo asks her why they're enemies if they're both fighting for the colonies, but she tries to punch him. An OZ shuttle opens fire, but Duo knocks Hilde out of the way and takes several hits.

Duo is placed under arrest after his damaged Leo is hauled aboard the shuttle. Hilde asks Duo why he saved her and says she doesn't need sympathy from an enemy. Duo asks her what enemies she means, and since when the colonies fight in wars. He asks when the colonies became so twisted, and she answers that the colonies are affected by wars on Earth. She tells him he's being taken to the Lunar Base, which pleases Duo since he plans on destroying it. Hilde asks Duo why he refuses to see her as an enemy, and he answers that she doesn't have the skills to be his enemy. Hilde asks her commander if it was necessary to open fire and possibly kill her, but he says OZ soldiers need to prepare for any risk. The shuttle's engine suddenly explodes as it approaches the Moon, and Hilde runs to the mobile suit hangar and finds Duo escaping in his damaged Leo. He blasts out of the shuttle and immediately comes under fire from Taurus mobile dolls. The Tauruses move too quickly for Duo to hit them, and their attacks force him down to the Moon's surface. Duo waits for the Tauruses to kill him, but one of them is instead destroyed by Hilde. Duo tells Hilde she should send her ally code so that the Tauruses don't kill her, but she tells him she doesn't know who her allies are now. She then blasts open a door into the base and tells Duo to do what he must. She vows that from now on she'll live her own way. She tells Duo she's prepared to die, and as he escapes he tells her to not die in vain. Duo examines the base's layout and is discovered by guards. Duo gets a run and discovers the room where the engineers are rebuilding the Gundams. Professor G tells Duo he can have a new Gundam if he can live another month. As OZ guards approach, Professor G tells Duo to decide quickly because they don't want to be discovered. Duo puts down his gun and gets beaten down by Master O, who hands him over to the OZ guards. Duo is then thrown into the brig with Heero and Wufei. Heero comments that Duo must've failed his mission, but Duo reports that his and Wufei's Gundams are being rebuilt. Heero tells Duo to make sure he lives, and Duo vows to become the God of Death once again. Trowa reports back to Une after escorting Zechs on one of his peace meetings. Une comments that Milliardo must see the resolve of the colonies, and Trowa asks what Zechs thinks. Une says they'll battle again and see what his decision is. She says no one can stop the future, not even Treize, but she's willing to sacrifice herself for Treize's ideals.

Commentary

The events of this episode bring Duo to the Lunar Base, reuniting him with Heero, Trowa and Wufei. He meets an idealistic girl named Hilde, and her encounters with Duo soon show her that not everything is black and white. This episode gives us a prime example of good old anime character armor. Normally, Leos explode if you so much as sneeze at them. But here, Duo's Leo becomes nearly invincible, taking a bunch of shots from the OZ shuttle and the Tauruses. Zechs continues to travel around the colonies to urge them against allying with OZ, but his words fall on deaf ears. Sally's been busy on Earth, having discovered and acquired the Wing Gundam that Heero left behind when he went to space. We also see Tubarov at work on the new Virgo mobile dolls, as well as his complete dismissal of Gundams as technology. Perhaps he shouldn't be so dismissive because the engineers are rebuilding the Gundams right underneath his considerably large nose.
