Episode 41: Crossfire at Barge

On Barge, preparations are made to fire the main cannon. White Fang forces led by Sedici launch an attack against the space fortress. As Epyon enters the battle, Sedici tells Zechs that he should be giving orders and letting the mobile dolls do the fighting. Zechs ignores him and goes into the battle. Noin prepares to leave Peacemillion so she can find out why Zechs is part of White Fang now. Duo, Quatre, and Trowa agree to go with her. On Earth, Heero attacks an OZ base so that he can steal a shuttle and return to space. He spots a plane approaching him and is about to shoot it when he sees that Sally is the pilot. She shows him Heavyarms and asks if he can take it to space. He tells her to prepare the shuttle when he detects enemies. He flies off and destroys them while she loads Heavyarms onto the shuttle. At Romefeller headquarters, Marquise Weridge and the top officials meet to decide what to do about Zechs. Treize storms in with armed men and tells them they should follow him. Relena notices that the castle is empty and finds Treize in one room. He tells her that she is dismissed from her position and can do whatever she wants. Dorothy sees her leaving and assumes she will go into space. She decides to go into space as well.

In space, the battle at Barge continues. Noin and the boys arrive at the battle to find Zechs. Trowa leaves to defend the nearby colonies, and mobile dolls attack Duo and Quatre. As they are about to destroy them, Epyon appears and destroys them. Neither of them know who the pilot is inside. The Barge cannon fires and destroys Sedici's forces, but it also damages a colony. When Epyon attacks, Quatre concludes it can't be Heero. Noin realizes that it's Zechs and grabs him from behind. She tells Quatre and Duo to hurry up and stop Barge from firing again. As they fly off, she asks Zechs why he has joined White Fang when Earth is heading towards peace. He tells her that Earth is the origin of conflict and must be wiped out. He escapes and flies past Duo and Quatre. As the Barge cannon is about to fire, Zechs cuts a hole down the middle of the fortress with the Epyon's beam saber. As he flies away, the fortress explodes. No one can believe what he has done.

This was an interesting episode to say the least. Treize finally returns from the shadows and now commands Romefeller. Relena accepted this just way too easily. She seemed to have no problem at all with him just stealing her position. The battle at Barge was pretty well done. I was glad to see Sedici dead because I really didn't like that guy. What I find hard to believe is that Epyon could have the power to destroy Barge. Treize designed Epyon to be a close combat suit, not an assault suit like the other Gundams. Even though its beam saber is internally powered and is the most powerful saber ever, I still don't think it would be powerful enough to destroy a fortress that's the size of a space colony. If Wing Zero needs a big buster rifle to do the same, then Heero was pretty stupid to switch suits with Zechs.
