Summary

On the Sudori, Buran receives orders to let the AEUG escape over the Pacific Ocean so that the Titans base in New Guinea can attack them. Buran intends to finish them off before they leave the United States, and he tells Ben Wooder to contact the Murasame Institute in Japan. The Audhumla plans to land at the Karaba base Hickory, where a shuttle will transport Kamille and Char back to the Argama in space. Beltorchika tells Amuro things will the same as before now that he's back, and she kisses him. He tells her not to do that out of sympathy, and she says she is the one who wants sympathy. He kisses her, but Char interrupts and says Hayato wants to speak to Beltorchika. Amuro asks Char if he can borrow the Rick Dias, but Char says he's not allowed to use it. He tells Amuro he needs to come back to space, but Amuro says he's afraid of zero gravity. Char says he's afraid of seeing Lalah's ghost, which causes Amuro to have a flashback of when he killed Lalah during the One Year War. Char and Amuro visit the hangar, where Katz is helping Kamille get the water out of the Mk II. Char tells Katz that he got Hayato's permission to take him to space. A pigeon lands at Hickory as the signal that the Audhumla is coming in for landing, and the crew sets the runway on fire as a guiding light. The Audhumla approaches Hickory, which is blanketed in treacherous fog. Beltorchika leaves in her Comet biplane to guide Kamille and Char down to the base. Amuro takes Katz with him in the Rick Dias, and Katz says he is glad Amuro is piloting mobile suits again. Amuro spots several Hizacks on Base Jabbers and the Asshimar and sees that they haven't noticed him yet.

Kamille and Char land at Hickory and prepare to load their suits onto the shuttle. Buran attacks the Audhumla, and Amuro begins destroying some of the Hizacks. Hayato has the Audhumla maneuver to avoid Buran. In the fog, Amuro manages to destroy more Hizacks. The Hyaku-Shiki is loaded onto the shuttle, and Kamille decides not to load the Mk II so that he can find Amuro. He takes off to look for him and encounters some Hizacks. Amuro gives Katz the gun he shot Char with at the end of the One Year War, and he tells him he needs it. He lands the Rick Dias near the shuttle to let Katz off, and he returns to the sky to find Kamille. Char wants to help him, but Katz pulls the gun out and says it is important for him to get back into space. Beltorchika continues to fly through the fog and gets caught in the middle of the battle. Kamille attacks Buran and loses his Dodai Kai. Buran uses the Asshimar's mobility to attack Kamille and escape. Kamille manages to land on Amuro's Dodai Kai, and Amuro tells him where to shoot his bazooka. Kamille hits the Asshimar's main camera, but the blast does not cause any significant damage. Buran presses the attack, and Kamille tells Beltorchika to land in the Audhumla. Kamille and Amuro ditch the Dodai Kai and fire at Buran from two directions. They knock out his propulsion, causing him to fall on Kamille. He tries to kill Kamille with his beam saber, but Amuro cuts his hand off. Kamille escapes, and Amuro rams his beam saber into the Asshimar's cockpit and destroys it. The shuttle takes off and heads for space to dock with the Argama. Kamille and Amuro return to the Audhumla, where Amuro is greeted by Beltorchika. Hayato receives another letter from Kai and decides they will head for Hong Kong.

Commentary

All around, this is a good episode. Amuro gets romantic, which is something that never occurred in the original series. Fans of the original series will be glad to see all the nods this episode makes to it, including a green flashback sequence of Amuro killing Lalah. Also, we finally get to see Amuro fight together with Kamille, which was a long time coming. The two of them seem to do pretty well as they finally finish off Buran (he was getting kind of annoying anyway). The only problem was that he had to save Kamille, as Char has to often do. Now the storyline splits in two as Char heads back to space and Kamille stays on Earth with Amuro. Kamille has to find a way to get back into space, but the question is, will Amuro come with him?
