Episode 17: Hong Kong City

Review by Chris Guanche

Summary

With Buran dead, the Sudori is now under the command of Ben. He calls the Murasame Research Institute of Japan for reinforcements to avenge Buran. As they fly over Asia, they dock with the massive Psycho Gundam mobile fortress. Ben is introduced to its pilot, Four Murasame, and her supervisor Namicar Cornell. Four tells Ben that she doesn't follow anyone's orders, and Ben agrees to let her do as she wishes. On the Audhumla, Kamille, Amuro, Hayato and Beltorchika discuss their next move. Hayato says that Kai referred him to a man named Luio Woo-min of the Luio Company in Hong Kong to get more supplies. After getting supplies, they plan to attack the Titans base in New Guinea and steal a shuttle. While Kamille repairs the Mk II, Beltorchika asks him to let Amuro pilot it and raise his confidence. Kamille refuses and says her sympathy could get Amuro killed. The Audhumla lands in Hong Kong, and Amuro and Beltorchika search the city and find the Luio Company. He is surprised to see Mirai Noa there with her children Cheimin and Hathaway. She tells Amuro that she is living on the cruise ship Coral Oriental while waiting to get to a colony. Amuro can't wait in line and jumps ahead, asking for Luio Woo-min. An employee attacks him and beats him up while Beltorchika, Mirai and the children escape. At the same time, the Psycho Gundam lands in the city and begins wreaking havoc. Hayato sends Kamille out in the Mk II to fight.

Namicar tells Ben that this if Four's first battle, and if she becomes emotionally unstable she might attack friendly forces. Ben thinks that Cyber Newtypes are still experimental because of that. Kamille flies by the Psycho Gundam, and Four shoots at him. He has a strange Newtype sensation, and both Amuro and Four sense it. Amuro meets Luio Woo-min's daughter Stephanie, and she explains they had to take precautions when he mentioned her father's name. The building begins to shake, and Amuro and Stephanie run out into the street. Kamille jumps onto the Psycho Gundam, but Four spins around and knocks him off. Amuro sees Kamille fighting and says his tactics are all wrong. Beltorchika and Mirai return to the Audhumla, and Hayato sends out two Nemos to help Kamille. Four easily shoots the Nemos down. The Psycho Gundam transforms into mobile suit mode and continues to shoot at Kamille and shoot buildings. Kamille moves in to attack Four and sends out a Newtype sensation that scares her off. Ben asks her why she didn't destroy the Mk II, and she yells at him and says he can't understand since he's not the Psycho Gundam pilot. Later, Amuro tells Kamille that he has to go back to space because the Earth weighs down his soul. Amuro doesn't want what happened to him to be repeated by Kamille. Kamille wonders about that, since the Earth is the origin of all souls.

Commentary

There are quite a bit of developments here. First, it seems that Beltorchika is becoming quite possessive of Amuro, as seen by her behavior. She doesn't seem to like Mirai that much and has an evil look in her eye when she speaks to her. Also, it seems Kamille's powers are growing if he can scare Four and her ridiculous Psycho Gundam away. It's odd that the Titans would create the Psycho Gundam, which seems to be good at destroying big buildings and not mobile suits. On another note, it's good to see Mirai again after all this time. With her appearance, the only original series character yet to appear is Sayla Mass.
