Episode 19: Cinderella Four

Summary

Hayato receives an order from the mayor of Hong Kong to leave the city by midnight following the destruction from the recent attacks. While preparing for departure, Kamille talks to Amuro about his encounter with Four. He asks Amuro what it's like when Newtypes fall in love. Amuro says that if Four was a Newtype, Kamille would have sensed it immediately. Beltorchika shows up, and Amuro warns Kamille to stay away from her. Mirai shows up, and Beltorchika asks to be told about the Newtype that Amuro fought during the One Year War. However, she leaves in a fit of rage, so Mirai instead tells Kamille about Lalah. Four walks through the streets in a daze and is nearly hit by a truck. Kamille sneaks out of the Audhumla and steals a motorcycle. On the Sudori, Namicar tells Ben that the Psyco Gundam has been reprogrammed so that a non-Newtype can use it. He wants to use the power of it, and he believes artificial Newtypes are unreliable. Elsewhere, an officer spots Four and tells her to return to the Sudori. She refuses, and just then Kamille shows up. The officer points a gun at Kamille, but she convinces him to give her more time. Kamille and Four embrace and head to a quiet rooftop. Four asks Kamille to kiss her, and he does. Four decides to tell Kamille the truth about herself, which is that she has no memories of her past. She hopes that working for the Murasame Institute will give that back to her. Just then the Psyco Gundam attacks, and Four runs off. This time, Ben is piloting the Psyco Gundam, but he finds it difficult to control. The Audhumla prepares for takeoff, and Amuro suits up and heads out in his Rick Dias.

Amuro attacks the Psyco Gundam, but he doesn't do any damage. The Psyco Gundam suddenly stops and crashes into the ground. Ben doesn't know what's going on, and the Psyco Gundam starts moving towards a construction site. He sees that Four is calling the Psyco Gundam towards her, and he tells her to back up the Hizacks. Kamille uses the headlight from the motorcycle to signal Amuro for a pick up. Kamille won't speak to Amuro, and he says that since Amuro wouldn't tell him about Newtypes, he had to go out and find out for himself. Amuro drops Kamille off at the Audhumla, where the Mk II is being prepared for combat. Stephanie slaps him and tells him this is not a game. Kamille tells her he's being serious and gets inside of the Mk II. He thinks to himself that she's like a female Wong. Four destroys parts of the city because she doesn't care. She doesn't see what the point is in living if she can't remember the past. Kamille attacks the Psyco Gundam and is shocked when he senses Four is the pilot. He doesn't want to fight her, and she chases him out to the see. Amuro shoots at her and causes them to fall in the water. Kamille tells him not to shoot, and he gets out of the Mk II to speak to Four. He asks her to come to space and promises that the AEUG will try to restore her memories. She doesn't believe him, and she tells him to stop being her enemy. Kamille gets back inside the Mk II, and Amuro tries to locate the battle system that is controlling Four. A Hizack shoots off Amuro's arm and knocks Kamille in the water. After destroying the Hizack, Kamille finds that Four is gone. Later, Mirai says goodbye to everyone and tells Beltorchika not to rush things with Amuro.

Commentary

I think this was a very strong episode for both Kamille and Four. For a nice change, we get to see another side of Kamille that is different from the "I'm depressed and Titans suck" attitude that he usually has. Beltorchika becomes ever more annoying, especially when she asks Mirai for information and accuses her of lying. Four seems pretty screwed up, and since she works for the Titans, this causes problems. I can already see her relationship with Kamille ending tragically like the Amuro/Char/Lalah thing from the original series.
