Episode 23: Moon Attack

Review by Chris Guanche

Summary

The Radish leaves the Moon, and Katz asks Char if he can go over to the Argama. They walk to the bridge, where Henken is talking on the phone to Wong about an attack. Wong wants them to protect Blex, but Char wants to stop Operation Apollo. He hopes that the Titans were listening in to confuse them about their real tactics. On the Argama, Emma finds Kamille sticking his bed in the hallway and cleaning his room because he doesn't want angels to laugh at him if he dies and the room is dirty. As Emma leaves for the bridge, she takes a holotape he was going to give to Torres. He bumps into Fa, who has questions for Emma. On the bridge, Emma gives the holotape to Torres, which he calls a "Hong Kong souvenir." On the Dogosse Giar, Scirocco explains the plan to attack Von Braun City and convert it to a Titans base. Jerid is given a new subordinate named Hori to replace Siddeley. Aboard the Alexandria, Jamaican plots to have Scirocco be his shield and bear the brunt of the attack. The Argama rendezvous with the Radish, and a supply ship carrying Katz is sent over. The enemy is located, and Char launches in his Hyaku-Shiki. Jamaican begins Operation Apollo and hands the battle over to Scirocco, who begins firing warning shots at Von Braun City. Katz wants to go out in a mobile suit, but none are left. Fa launches in the Methuss, followed by Kamille's Zeta Gundam and Emma's Mk II. Scirocco orders his people not to launch mobile suits yet.

Char leads a squad of Nemos against enemy Hizacks while Apolly and his Rick Dias squad attack battleships. Char notices that the Dogosse Giar hasn't sent out any mobile suits. Fa battles a Hizack, and Kamille saves her. Scirocco finally allows his mobile suits to launch, and Jerid enters battle with Hori and Sarah. Jerid's Gabthley attacks Von Braun's GM II forces and soon comes under fire from Char and Kamille. As Scirocco prepares to enter Von Braun, Mouar realizes he used Jerid as bait and launches to help him. Jamaican sees what's going on and doesn't want Scirocco to land before him, but it's too late. Char and Kamille have an uncomfortable Newtype reaction when Scirocco passes by them. Jerid chases Kamille, and Char grapples onto him. Mouar attacks Char and blows one of the Hyaku-Shiki's arms off. Jerid tries to shoot at Kamille, and Mouar stops him so that he can escape from Char. Char and Jerid crash into the Moon's surface and tumble on the ground. Mouar grabs Char and rips the Hyaku-Shiki's tail binders off. Char breaks free with Kamille's help, and they leave the area. Scirocco sends out a message that he will destroy Von Braun City if the attack doesn't end. Bright orders everyone to retreat, and Fa fails to accept the order. Later, Jamaican slaps Scirocco for being cocky. He is glad the city was captured, but he thought Scirocco was reckless in fighting the AEUG. Scirocco asks him to take control of Von Braun City because it's too great a responsibility for him. Fa returns from battle in a bad mood, and Kamille asks Emma and Reccoa to calm her down.

Commentary

This episode was certainly filled with quite a lot of action and plotting. Jamaican returns after being absent for a long time, and it seems he's not happy with Scirocco's rise to power. He intends to get rid of Scirocco, but I think Scirocco is more clever than he is and will ultimately win. I don't think anyone crosses Scirocco and survives. Jerid isn't happy with Scirocco either, and he gets wounded in battle for the second consecutive time. Fa really is pretty useless as a pilot, and I don't see why anyone would want her to be a pilot. It's also good to see Char back in action again after him being gone for a few episodes. Probably the best part of this episode is that at the end the AEUG loses the battle, and the Titans get Von Braun City.
