Episode 25: Colony Drop

Review by Chris Guanche

June 19, 2001

Summary

A Hizack piloted by Sarah and carrying a white flag lands on the Argama. Sarah is approached by several armed men, and she tells them she has important information for the AEUG. She is taken to a room with Bright, Kamille, Emma and Katz. She tells them that the Titans are taking an uninhabited colony from Side 4 and are going to drop it on Granada. Bright talks to Wong on the monitor, and Wong wonders if it is a trap. Bright believes Sarah because she's so young and supposedly hates the methods of the Titans. Sarah is taken to a room, and Kamille interrogates her. He says he believes the part about the colony drop, but not the rest of her story. He asks who sent her, and she accidentally mentions Scirocco. Kamille realizes that he would want the colony drop stopped because it would be disadvantageous to him if it were successful. He asks her if she's a Cyber Newtype and leaves. He finds Katz waiting outside and tells him that she is dangerous. In the cafeteria, Kamille eats with Katz and Fa, and he tells Katz to stay away from Sarah. Fa then starts badgering Kamille about why he was alone with Sarah. As the colony approaches Granada, Jamaican tells Yazan to remember his responsibility as the captain of a squadron.

On the Argama, Apolly launches in his Rick Dias and heads for the colony. Katz brings Sarah a normal suit, and she asks if he's going to be in the battle. Since he has no mobile suit, she offers to show him how to use her Hizack. He agrees to take her to the mobile suit deck. Emma launches in the Mk II from the Radish, followed by Reccoa in the Methuss and Kamille in the Zeta Gundam. The mayor of Granada asks Wong to tell the citizens to evacuate, but Wong says he's certain the AEUG will win, and he doesn't want people to lose faith in the AEUG. When the colony comes into range, the Argama and Radish begin firing their main cannons. Jamaican orders his mobile suits to launch and attack. While Kamille fights Yazan, Emma heads for the colony to activate the nuclear pulse engine and change its trajectory. Sarah tells Katz that the Gaplant has a blind spot underneath it, and then she knocks him away and escapes with the Hizack. Emma activates the engine and changes the trajectory of the colony. Katz tells Kamille the Gaplant's weakness, and Kamille drives Yazan away. Jamaican retreats in failure, and the colony crashes far away from Granada. Katz is locked up for his actions and wonders if all people are so untrustworthy.

Commentary

I think it's required that in every Gundam series you have to throw a Big Nasty Thing at Earth or some other planetary body (this time being the Moon). The Titans must be getting really desperate if they're resorting to such barbaric tactics as tossing colonies down on cities. However, now that they control all of the Federation Forces, no one can stop them. Though Scirocco is again absent, he's pulling strings from behind the scenes to make sure that Jamaican doesn't get any more power or complete his mission. Yazan may be a brute, but he's a good pilot, and he manages to cause some pretty serious damage to the Zeta Gundam. With Jamaican now defeated and humiliated, I wonder if he's going to make a final attack on the AEUG.
