Episode 33: The Messenger from Axis

Review by Chris Guanche

January 24, 2002

Summary

The Argama approaches the Axis ship Gwadan. Fa asks Kamille why he has to go to an enemy ship, and Kamille says it's Bright's orders. A Space Boat carrying Bright, Char, Kamille, Reccoa, Apolly and Wong heads over to the Gwadan and is escorted by a reckless Gaza-C. As everyone gets out, Char and Kamille have Newtype reactions to Haman. Kamille wonders what type of woman she is. Wong identifies himself as AEUG's representative and asks Haman to name hers. She takes them to an ornate chamber where a child sits on a throne. The child is Mineva Zabi, the daughter of Dozle Zabi and the last living Zabi heir. Haman tells Char to approach Mineva, and he does so reluctantly. Mineva recognizes Char and says she remembers him playing with her when she was younger. Mineva spouts out nonsense about spacenoid prosperity, and Char asks Haman how she can do this to a child. He grabs her, and her soldiers pull him away. His defiance gets everyone locked in a room. He wants to get out, so he and Kamille start fighting to get the guard to come inside. When he does, Wong grabs his weapons. Bright thinks this is dangerous, but Wong says they will be killed if they stay in confinement. Char leaves, and Kamille and Reccoa soon follow after him. Kamille asks Reccoa why she does such dangerous work, and she says it's her personality. Char shoots a guard to steal his normal suit and eventually finds Haman. She tells him he can't win inside her ship. He tries to shoot her, but he is surrounded by her troops. Kamille and Reccoa arrive and shoot some of the soldiers. Haman shoots Reccoa in the arm and escapes. Kamille asks Char where his calm attitude is, and Reccoa says they should focus on finding a away to escape.

Kamille tells Char he understands that he shares no beliefs with Haman, and Reccoa tells him he doesn't have time for that. He gets normal suits for himself and Reccoa, and they fight their way through the ship. Bright and the others fight in the hangar to get their Space Boat back. Apolly is wounded while trying to run to the shuttle. Char arrives and kills some of the men shooting at Bright. They escape, and Torres fills the area with dummy asteroid balloons to cover the Space Boat's escape route. Everyone gets in their mobile suits and prepares for a battle with the Gwadan. Haman finds it unnecessary to send out her own mobile suits. A mobile suit force led by Yazan that consists of several Hambrabis and Marasais attacks instead. Yazan tells his men they will be using Operation Cobweb on the Zeta Gundam. On the Dogosse Giar, Scirocco sees that negotiations between Axis and AEUG have broken down, and he thinks that fate is in his favor. Kamille attacks Yazan, and he is forced to fend off two other Hambrabis as well. He chases them until they catch him in a wire spiderweb that sends an electrical shock. Kamille is saved when Reccoa slams into Yazan with the Methuss. Kamille and Char fight off the Hambrabis while Reccoa holds on to Yazan. He tries to destroy the Methuss, but some Nemos stop him. He fights with Kamille and Char, but he is driven away when the Mk II, G-Defenser and some more Nemos arrive from the Radish. On the Gwadan, Scirocco pledges his life to serve Mineva, and she agrees. Haman thinks she is lucky to have found such a stupid man in the universe.

Commentary

Well, Char really screwed up this one. His attempt to kill Haman has cost the AEUG a valuable alliance with the Axis Zeon. Even worse is that the Axis have allied themselves with the Titans, namely Scirocco. We get some interesting flashbacks here, such as seeing Char in his old Zeon uniform, but wearing his trademark Quattro sunglasses. Back in the original series he had a blood feud with the Zabis, and it doesn't look like the passage of time has caused him to forget that. If Mineva seems to remind people of Mariemaia Khushrenada from Gundam Wing, that's because Mineva is the inspiration for Mariemaia. Both are emotionally unstable girls that are puppets for adults. Now that Haman has become an enemy, it looks like times will be a lot harder for Kamille and friends.
