Episode 35: Storm Over Kilimanjaro

Review by Chris Guanche

Summary

The Radish leaves La Vie en Rose before the Argama. Shinta and Qum ask Kamille to fix Haro, but he says he's busy. Char tells Fa that if she wants to keep the kids that she'll have to report them missing again. Shinta and Qum complain to Fa that Kamille won't fix Haro. Fa scolds Kamille for not doing it, so he agrees to do it. Char and Bright discuss the upcoming Kilimanjaro attack. Char holds a meeting and discusses the joint AEUG/Karaba attack of the Titans headquarters in Kilimanjaro, Africa. The AEUG's part is to attack from space, while Karaba attacks on the ground. Kamille asks why they aren't going to Earth, and he says that Char is scared of the Titans. Kamille says that is why Reccoa died, and Apolly and Fa tell him to shut up. Kamille leaves and thinks about his time with Four on Earth. He runs into Shinta and Qum and decides to give them Haro. Fa thanks him for that, and he tells her to take care of Reccoa's cactus. Elsewhere, Yazan borrows a squad of the new Barzam suits from Gady. The Argama enters orbit of Earth and begins firing on Kilimanjaro. Yazan's Hambrabi team attack Kamille with wires to grapple him. Char saves him, but the Hyaku-Shiki is knocked into the atmosphere. One of the Hambrabis tries to follow, but Yazan says they have already done their job. Kamille transforms the Zeta Gundam to Waverider and flies into the atmosphere to prevent Char from burning up. Bright contacts Kamille and tells him and Char to join with the Karaba forces. Kamille and Char fly directly to Kilimanjaro to join Karaba in the attack. Hayato's Audhumla attacks Kilimanjaro with barrages of missiles. Char notes that though the Karaba has a large force they still haven't been able to destroy Kilimanjaro.

Kamille and Char land at the base of the mountain near a lake. Nearby, Karaba's Nemos fight an uphill battle against Marasais and Hizacks. Inside Kilimanjaro, Jamitov decides he wants to see the Psycho Gundam fight. Kamille and Char watch the Psycho Gundam fly by, and Kamille wonders if Four is the pilot. He senses that the Psycho Gundam is different from before and thinks Four isn't inside. Kamille and Char jump into the lake and swim through a drainage pipe to get into the base. Char asks Kamille why he followed and says if they are captured the Titans will get their suits. Kamille replies that he can't let Char do it alone. As they walk through the sewer, Kamille suddenly feels pain in his head. Jamitov watches as Four is subjected to psycho waves in an experiment, and he isn't satisfied with her performance. Kamille feels extreme pain again, and Char says it is dangerous for him to continue. Kamille and Char explore the interior of the base and kill several guards. They run into Jamitov, and Char tries to shoot him, but Jamitov avoids the shot and runs away. He locks himself into the control room, and Kamille and Char go into the room where Four is. Char shoots at the glass but his bullets bounce off because it is bulletproof. Jamitov says that he overestimated Char and leaves. Four goes out the door in a daze, and Kamille tries to talk to her. Char tries to shoot her because she's a Cyber Newtype under Titan control, but Kamille convinces him not to. Four gets into the Psycho Gundam and flies away. Outside, Amuro attacks the Titans with his Dijeh and sees the Psycho Gundam. He attacks the Psycho Gundam and sees Kamille and Char emerge from the mountain. Four destroys the Karaba's GM IIs, and Kamille tries to talk to her. She says she has to suffer because of him and will kill him. She damages the Zeta Gundam, and Char tells him to retreat. As the Karaba forces fly away from Kilimanjaro, Amuro asks Char if he is going to let Kamille repeat their mistake.

Commentary

This episode was certainly full of surprise appearances. It starts off well enough in space, and the apparent death of Reccoa is still affecting Kamille. Char has to come to his rescue during the battle, and as a result they fall to Earth. I was certainly surprised to see Amuro, Hayato, Jamitov and Four all in the same episode, since they've been absent for so long. Kamille is very glad to see Four, but she seems to be totally brainwashed by the Titans and quite unstable. Char tries to kill her, perhaps trying to spare him from the obsession he himself has with Lalah Sune. Amuro certainly mentions it, but not in so many words. It's good to see Amuro fighting again, especially with Kamille and Char. I predict bad things will happen pretty soon with they way the story seems to be going.
