Episode 39: By the Lake

Summary

At Gryps, Jamitov and Bask sit in a map room and discuss their tactics. Bask wants to move Gryps 2 to the battlefield, but Jamitov doesn't think it's time to use the colony laser yet. Bask says the Federation is fickle, and Jamitov replies that he won't give them the opportunity to make a mistake. As they leave, Bask says he doesn't trust Scirocco. He calls another Titan officer and is told that Rosamia has been sent out on her mission. Bask says he will go out to the battlefield to take care of Scirocco and Haman. Scirocco rides in an elevator with a woman and is told that Bask wants to build an army of artificial Newtypes, but Scirocco thinks it's too late for that. Apparently Reccoa agrees, and Scirocco thinks she will be very useful to him. Scirocco meets with Jamitov and Bask and is told that Bask will be using the Dogosse Giar. Scirocco offers to help Bask, and Bask tells Scirocco he will stop him if he even thinks about becoming more powerful. Rosamia arrives at Side 2's resort Colony 13 and walks through the spaceport. Nearby, Kamille, Fa, Emma, Shinta and Qum arrive. Rosamia gets into a monorail car and is later joined by all of them. As they ride through space, Shinta and Qum are amazed by space and the colony's farm facilities. Outside the colony, two Hizack Custom pilots named Kara and Sorama watch the area for any signs of AEUG activity. Shinta and Qum want to ride in a carriage, and Kamille gets in to drive it. Rosamia runs up to Kamille and tells him she is his younger sister Rosammy. She jumps into the carriage and hugs Kamille, saying she is glad to see him. Fa tells her to let go of him, and Kamille says he doesn't know her. Rosamia asks Fa if she is Kamille's girlfriend and says they look good together. In space, Char launches in the Hyaku-Shiki from where the Radish is docked with La Vie en Rose. Char decides to investigate the Side 2 area since nine other mobile suits have been attacked there recently. At the colony, the Kara and Sorama spot the Hyaku-Shiki and decide it will be their tenth kill. They get into their Hizack Customs and move into sniper positions. As Char approaches the colony, he senses something is wrong.

Fa says that Rosamia can't be Kamille's sister, and Kamille nearly runs over a group of sheep. Rosamia pulls out a picture of her and Kamille and some other kid. She says that during the One Year War their little brother was killed and they were separated. Kamille senses something, and the Hyaku-Shiki flies high in the skies of the colony. Char has the strange feeling that Amuro is in the colony and goes out into space. Kara and Sorama attack Char and begin fighting on the surface of the colony. Char grabs Kara and spins him around, but Sorama blindly fires at things and blasts a hole in the colony. They both escape into the hole, and Char wonders if they are looking for shelter. They blast another hole through the colony to shoot Char, and he follows them. Inside the colony, Char fights with Sorama under a bridge and destroys his Hizack Custom. The explosion creates another hole, and Char quickly seals it with adhesive. He knows he can't let the other suit explode and create another hole. On the other side of the colony, everyone rides on a lake in rowboats. Kamille and Fa go off on their own, and Fa thinks he is being absent-minded. Rosamia rows in a boat with Shinta, Qum and Mineva. Haman tells Mineva to come back immediately, but Mineva doesn't want to go because she says Haman is oppressive. Kara's Hizack slides down a nearby mountain, followed by Char's Hyaku-Shiki. Kamille spots Mineva and Haman and tells Rosamia to go to shore quickly. Haman thinks that AEUG is trying to kidnap Mineva, and a Gaza-C breaks out of a grain silo. Char disables the Hizack Custom and tells Kara to get out, but the Gaza-C blasts the Hizack Custom and creates another hole. Char blasts the Gaza-C and lets it get sucked into space. Kamille and the others run to a shelter for safety. Char uses more adhesive to seal off the damage. Later, Kamille tells Char that Bright is angry and that the colony police want him. He also tells Char that he saw Mineva and Haman in the colony. Char sees Rosamia, and Kamille says she claims to be his sister. The colony police come and take Char away.

Commentary

You could call this the episode where long-lost characters show up. Goggle freak Bask shows up for the first time in about 26 episodes, and he's the same old scheming guy from before. He doesn't like Scirocco and probably sees him as a threat to his own position. That map room that Bask and Jamitov were in was pretty impressive, and it reminded me of the Stellar Cartography room seen in Star Trek Generations. Rosamia has some evidence that Kamille is her brother, but it looks like this is all part of her "mission." I'm sure she's probably supposed to get close to him and kill him or something. Haman and Mineva show up here, and it looks like Mineva isn't a willing puppet like she seemed before. Char's battle here is impressive, and it's a surprise that the police come to take him away. Also, I think this probably is one of the few episodes where Kamille doesn't fight in a mobile suit. That's a rarity.
