Episode 42: Goodbye, Rosammy

Summary

At Granada, people flee the lunar city out of fear of Gryps 2. The Argama receives supplies from La Vie en Rose and departs with the Radish for Side 2. Kamille and Emma go to meet with Hasan and find Char and Fa waiting for them. Hasan explains that Rosamia has been altered and is indeed a Cyber Newtype. Kamille thinks it is wrong to control people and runs off. Hasan says it is better to let Newtypes evolve naturally, but Char says that if they wait for that the Earth will be destroyed by human pollution. Fa asks Kamille if he would fight Rosamia, and he says he doesn't know. He says that she is fighting against her own will because she has been programmed to fight. Bright, Char and Henken discuss the plan to protect Side 2 and destroy Gryps 2. Bright tells Char that since the speech at Dakar he doesn't really want him to pilot a mobile suit anymore. On the Dogosse Giar, Rosamia fights in a simulation of the cockpit of the Newtype mobile suit Baund-Doc. The test is supervised by a scientist named Loren Nakamoto and a pilot named Gates Capa. Loren explains the results to Bask, and Bask asks if Newtypes attract each other. He says that the greatest weakness of Cyber Newtypes is their human emotions. Bask is informed that the Alexandria is retreating from the field and moving back to Gryps 2. Bask figures that Gady objected to the use of G3 gas, and he decides to follow Gady back to Gryps 2 to discipline him. As the Dogosse Giar departs, Rosamia launches in the Baund-Doc, followed by Gates and Loren in the Baund-Doc prototype. Kamille promises Shinta and Qum that he will bring Rosamia back to them. He then launches with Char, Emma, Fa and Katz. The Titans fleet launches squads of mobile suits with G3 gas containers. The mayor of Side 2 wants to attack because the Titans will show no mercy. Kamille saves Katz from an attacking enemy, while Emma fights off Hizacks with the Super Gundam's long beam rifle. Fa chases a retreating Barzam and is attacked by Rosamia's Baund-Doc. Rosamia grapples the Methuss, and Kamille helps Fa escape. Kamille senses Rosamia is the pilot and asks her to come back with him. She agrees, but the Baund-Doc's psycommu system begins to broadcast mind control waves.

Rosamia shoots at Kamille, but the blast hits Side 2's Colony 13 and creates a hole. She babbles nonsense about the Zeta Gundam making the sky fall and killing her family. Kamille grabs the Baund-Doc and asks Emma to give him more time. Gates and the scientist try to regain control of Rosamia, but she doesn't respond to them. Kamille lands the Zeta Gundam and Baund-Doc inside the colony and takes Rosamia out of the cockpit. He says the cockpit is controlling her and begins to shoot it, but that frightens her. He then tells her about his relationship with Four and how she died. In space, Char sees two Hizacks attaching a G3 container to a colony. He destroys the Hizacks and disarms the G3 container. He then notices the breach in Colony 13 and flies in, wondering if Haman and Mineva are still in the colony. As the Argama and Radish are attacked, Char lands the Hyaku-Shiki and explores the lakeside house. He finds a dying servant inside named Lamia inside who asks him to take care of Mineva. She says Mineva is a good girl who didn't ask to be born a Zabi. Char promises to protect Mineva, and Lamia dies. The Baund-Doc prototype enters Colony 13 and begins broadcasting mind control waves at Rosamia. Gates gets out and points a gun at Kamille to capture him and Rosamia. Char flies by, and Kamille uses the distraction to tackle Gates and fight with him. They both shoot at each other, and Gates escapes. The Baund-Doc transforms into a mobile suit on its own, and Rosamia gets inside. She tries to crush Kamille, and Char shoots at her to allow Kamille to get into the Zeta Gundam. He lines up a perfect shot, but he hesitates despite Char's protests. Rosamia knocks him down and prepares to kill him, but Char shoots at her. Gates orders her into space, and they retreat from the colony. They find the Super Gundam and other suits waiting for them, so they retreat. Kamille wonders how Rosamia could have changed so much and if she will ever return to the ship. The battle works out perfectly as a deception planned by Bask. While the AEUG was fighting, he was able to move Gryps 2 into position to attack Granada.

Commentary

There's quite a few things happening here. First, we're introduced to the hideous mobile armor Baund-Doc, which looks strangely similar to the Muttowooo seen later in Turn A Gundam. We're also introduced to Gates Capa, who seems to be in charge of Rosamia's further brainwashing and training. Char's comments about Newtypes and Earth's pollution eerily foreshadows his later radical opinions in Char's Counterattack. Also, you can see the mayor of Side 2 here, who previously appeared in episode 29. There he wanted to appease the Titans, but here he seems to see what they really are. I have to also wonder about that dying woman Lamia that Char found in Mineva's house. Was there some sort of fight there, or did Haman leave her there like that for Char to find her? We'll have to wait and find out what that devious woman is planning.
