Episode 44: The Gate of Zedan

Review by Chris Guanche

July 15, 2002

Summary

At the Gate of Zedan, Jamitov meets with Jerid and asks him how he survived against Haman. Jerid says that he felt he couldn't die until the enemy was beaten. Jamitov says Haman is a sneaky woman and that he will be meeting her personally. He gives Jerid a device that he says will protect him when the time is necessary. On the Argama, Kamille, Katz and Astonaige head to the bridge to give Bright a report. Bright and Char are talking about Haman, and Katz says they should be ashamed for helping the Zabis. He says that Haman will likely turn against them, and though Bright agrees they have no choice but to trust Haman. On the Jupitris, Sarah sees Reccoa leaving from Scirocco's office and goes inside to see him. He explains that he and Reccoa are going to meet Haman. Sarah wants to go with him, but he tells her that he wants her to find the Argama. He says he needs people that he can trust, and she agrees to go. She launches in the new Bolinoak-Sammahn and is joined by two Hizacks. The Gwadan is surrounded by Marasais as it approaches the Gate of Zedan, and Haman tells her men to contact the Argama when the time is right. Kamille tells Bright that Katz will feel better if he has something to do. He suddenly feels a strange pressure, and Bright orders him to launch when Sarah's squad approaches. The Zeta Gundam is attacked by Sarah and the Hizacks. One of the Hizacks grabs him, but he destroys it with his beam saber and shoots the other. He grapples the Bolinoak-Sammahn and tells Sarah to give up before she gets hurt. She refuses, and he tells her that Scirocco is using her. She shoots rockets at him, but he slices off her right arm. Sarah escapes towards the Gate of Zedan, and Kamille follows. Char sees that she is bait, and Bright orders Katz to launch in the Methuss. Kamille sees that Sarah has gone inside, so he leaves the Zeta Gundam behind. She waits to shoot him, but he tricks her by using his normal suit as a decoy. He tells her that Scirocco doesn't care about her, and she says he has high expectations for her. She also says that he has an idea to make a great new world for everyone. He says that's nonsense, and she says she is ready to be sacrificed for Scirocco's ideals. Kamille tells her she is a fool and can go to hell.

A shuttle from the Gwadan lands inside the Gate of Zedan, and Haman is taken to meet with Jamitov and Jerid. Jamitov asks her what she wants, and she answers that she wants the restoration of the Zabis. He says that if she lies about her intentions he will blow up the Gwadan. She laughs and says she will use Axis to destroy the Gate of Zedan. She says she wants Jamitov's life, and Jerid tries to shoot her with the device. Haman dodges and pulls off an earring she says is filled with poison gas. One of her soldiers comes to take her away, and she drops the earring in the room. Jerid seals himself and Jamitov in a secret compartment to avoid the gas. As Haman returns to her ship, Bright scrambles his forces to help her. Kamille calls Bright and says he will attack as well. Katz doesn't want to support the Zabis, but he decides to launch in the G-Defenser when he hears Sarah inside Kamille's cockpit. Jerid launches in the Byarlant and approaches the Gwadan to attack it. He destroys the Gaza-Cs that are in his way and heads for the Gwadan's bridge. He is forced to stop when he is attacked by Kamille. Jerid tries to shoot him, but Kamille manages to dodge. As they fight, Jerid destroys one of the Gwadan's fuel tanks and sets off a large explosion. Sarah senses Scirocco's presence and decides she can't let Kamille interfere with his will. She tries to take control of the Zeta Gundam while Kamille fights Jerid. He tells her she will die too, and she replies that she doesn't mind dying for Scirocco. Katz attacks Jerid to help Kamille, and Sarah tells Katz not to fight for Haman. Kamille tells Sarah to stop using Katz and knocks her out. Katz damages the Byarlant, and Jerid retreats. On the Argama, Sarah tells Katz he's become braver, and he says it is because of what she did to him. Fa asks Kamille why he brought Sarah back when he knows what happened before. He says he can't kill people casually and doesn't think that killing is the answer. In space, Axis slowly approaches the Gate of Zedan.

Commentary

The closer we get to the end of the show, the more things are starting to heat up. Haman made it look like she was on the side of the Titans, but it is clear that she has cast her lot with the AEUG. Jerid tries to kill Haman with Jamitov's device, but she is one step ahead and outsmarts him. This is the first time Jerid shows up in a while. The last time we saw him he unsuccessfully tried to prevent Kamille and Char from leaving Dakar and going back into space. Of course he fails to kill Kamille yet again, but he shouts out his trademark 'go to hell!' as usual before failing. Katz seems to really have a problem with the AEUG's alliance with Haman. Perhaps he has a lot of bad memories of his time on the White Base during the One Year War. Sarah shows up after being gone for a while, and she's as obsessed with Scirocco as ever. Kamille has captured her, but I think she will escape again. Hopefully this time it will be a bit harder for her to escape than it was the last time.
