Episode 45: Coming From the Heavens

Summary

At the Gate of Zedan, Bask tells Jamitov that Axis is on a collision course. Bask receives a call and is informed that the AEUG fleet is also approaching. On the Jupitris, Scirocco orders Reccoa to join the battle and rescue Sarah. Reccoa asks if that's necessary, and he tells her that if she were in Sarah's place he would send someone for her. On the Argama, Bright briefs the pilots on the plan, which is to pin the Titans against the Gate of Zedan before Axis arrives. Kamille shows up to the meeting late and tells Fa that Katz is missing. He and Fa find Katz watching Sarah on the security monitors, and Kamille slaps him. He tells Katz to stop thinking about Sarah and concentrate on the battle. As everyone launches, Kamille thinks that if Katz can't get over Sarah then he's not as good of a pilot as he thinks he is. As the attack begins, Jamitov and Bask evacuate to the Dogosse Giar and leave the Gate of Zedan. Kamille and Char begin attacking the Titans battleships, followed by Emma's Mk II and a squad of Nemos. Reccoa hides the Palace-Athene behind an asteroid and approaches the Argama from behind. She attacks and blows a hole in the ship's port side. Kamille senses her and tells her to stop. Sarah manages to escape in the confusion and leaves with her Bolinoak-Sammahn. Katz senses her and turns the G-Defenser around against orders, so Char tells Emma to follow him. Fa returns to the Argama with the Methuss and attacks Reccoa. Kamille senses this and tells Fa to get away from Reccoa. Fa sees how fast Reccoa is and grapples onto her. Fa asks Reccoa why she is on the other side now. Reccoa tells her to let go as she approaches the Gate of Zedan. Two Barzams appear in front of them, and Reccoa destroys them. They fly through an entrance and both crash into the Gate of Zedan.

Fa asks Reccoa why she betrayed them, and Reccoa wonders if Fa views it that simply. She says that she was never an ideologist and that she was looking for feelings she lost during the war. Kamille breaks into the area, and Reccoa escapes. Fa gets back into the Methuss, and the Zeta Gundam chases Reccoa. Outside, Katz chases Sarah and shoots her. He asks why she wants to go back to Scirocco so badly, and she says it is because she met Scirocco first. Emma orders Katz to shoot Sarah, and he tells her to mind her own business. He can't shoot her, so Emma does and chases her away. Jerid launches from the Dogosse Giar and destroys Nemos with his Byarlant. He spots Zeta Gundam and Palace-Athene, so he attacks. Reccoa says she will help him, but he tells her to leave. Kamille attacks Reccoa again, and Jerid watches them. Fa attacks Jerid, and Apolly tells her to get away from Jerid. He slams the Rick Dias into Jerid and knocks him away, but Jerid then fires at Apolly and kills him. Kamille is filled with anger and slices into the Byarlant, placing Jerid on the defensive. As Axis approaches the Gate of Zedan, Bright watches from the Argama. He is amazed that Haman has rebuilt the forces of the Zabis and orders Torres to get as much info as he can on the fleet. Kamille tries to retreat, but Jerid keeps attacking him. Axis separates from the Moussa habitation block and slams into the Gate of Zedan, ripping it in half. The impact sends rocks flying everywhere, destroying Titans ships and suits. Emma takes the opportunity to seize control of a Titans ship. Bask doesn't care because he wants to get out of there. Kamille and Jerid continue fighting in the debris, but the rocks block them. Char shoots at Jerid and tells Kamille not to focus on one suit only. After returning to the ship, Fa tells Emma she blames herself for not killing Reccoa. With the last Titans base destroyed, Char meets with Haman again to negotiate.

Commentary

We get quite fierce battle in this episode, along with the first of many casualties: Apolly. Jerid killing him now makes him even with Kamille in that they've each killed three people important to each other. Of course, poor Jerid still can't manage to beat Kamille, even with the powerful Byarlant. It doesn't seem to matter what powerful new suit Jerid gets because he never will be a match for Kamille. Fa gets to see quite a lot of action and actually does pretty well (for once). It looks like Reccoa is uneasy about her betrayal, despite what she says. Why else would she destroy two Barzams to protect Fa? It's interesting to see a battle at the Gate of Zedan, since it was the site of the last battle of the One Year War when it was called A Baoa Qu. In an eerie coincidence, Sarah tells Katz that she wants Scirocco because she met him first. That's almost the same thing Lalah said to Amuro before she died, and I imagine things will be just as tragic for Katz and Sarah.
