Episode 48: The Mirror of Rosamia

Review by Chris Guanche

November 3, 2002

Summary

Bright and Char discuss how they will keep Axis from crashing onto Granada. They can't use nuclear missiles because Axis is too close to Granada, so Char suggests shooting at it with Gryps 2. Saegusa says that the Minovsky particle density is too high to contact Gryps 2, so he thinks they should sneak into Axis to send a signal to the Radish. Bright tells Kamille to get some rest, and Kamille says that if Axis falls on Granada he will feel guilty because he wasn't able to kill Haman. Char notes that he damaged the Qubeley, and Kamille says that while Haman can fix the suit she can't fix anything once he kills her. As he leaves, he runs into Fa and she asks him if they will go back to the way they were once the war ends. He says they can't because he knows what his role is now. On the Dogosse Giar, Rosamia launches in the Psyco Gundam Mark II under the supervision of Gates in the Baund Doc prototype. Bask is told by Loren that Gates is acting like Rosamia's brother so that she will listen to what he says. Gates tells Rosamia that the enemy she must destroy is the Zeta Gundam. Elsewhere, a group including Fa and Torres sneaks into one of the abandoned civilian areas of Axis to find the communication center. As Kamille tries to sleep, he hears Rosamia's voice in space. On the Dogosse Giar, sensors pick up 20 approaching Marasais led by Reccoa's Palace Athene. Bask tells Gates to fight them and forget about Rosamia's experiment. Rosamia begins blindly firing at the surface of Axis, and Fa runs for cover. As Kamille launches in the Zeta Gundam, he wonders if the voice he hears is Four. Rosamia begins firing at him, so he flies towards Axis and into a narrow tunnel. Rosamia follows him and gets stuck because the Psyco Gundam Mk II is too big. Kamille gets out of the Zeta Gundam and wonders who the pilot of the Psyco Gundam Mk II is.

Rosamia gets out of the cockpit and starts shooting at Kamille. He shoots at her helmet and grabs her. He tells her he is Kamille, and she thinks again that he is her brother. As Kamille holds Rosamia he hears the voice of Four speaking to him. The vacuum from a hole blows them both away. Rosamia begins wandering around Axis and finds Fa in a toy story. She holds her at gunpoint, and Fa asks her to stop. Rosamia asks how Fa knows her name, and Fa reminds her that they used to be on the Argama. Kamille sees Rosamia through the window and thinks she is Four. He goes into the store and asks Rosamia to stop. Rosamia's head hurts, and she says that she remembers having a family. Fa tells her that all her memories are fake since she is a Cyber Newtype. She asks her what she gained from being a Newtype. Rosamia runs out of the store, and Kamille runs after her, calling her Four. Kamille gets back into the Zeta Gundam, and Rosamia blows off one of the Psyco Gundam Mk II's legs so that she can get out of the narrow tunnel. She starts calling out for her brother and begins randomly shooting at Axis and the Argama. Kamille grabs the Psyco Gundam Mk II's head and asks Rosamia to stop. She breaks away and continues shooting at the Argama. Kamille tells her that he feels sorry for her and will give her a direct shot. He fires at the Psyco Gundam Mk II's head and blows Rosamia away. Gates feels Rosamia's death and stops moving. Reccoa blows up the bridge of the Dogosse Giar and escapes as the ship explodes. Gryps 2 fires at Axis and knocks it off course from hitting Granada. Fa asks Kamille if she said too much to Rosamia, and he says she did the right thing. He remembers her saying Newtypes can do nothing and asks her if she thinks Newtypes are only good for killing people. Char tells him not to think too much about it.

Commentary

As we approach the finale, Kill 'Em All Tomino strikes again by smiting both Rosamia and Bask. Bask of course got what he deserved, and it's a bit of justice that the was killed by Reccoa. On the other hand, Rosamia's death is quite sad. Throughout the entire series we see that women like her and Four were innocent pawns whose minds were twisted to become little more than perfect human killing machines. The poor girl couldn't know what reality was if it slapped her in the face. Kamille knows this too, and I'm sure it makes him feel guilty since he had to deliver the killing blow to Rosamia. There were two noticeable absences in this episode: Haman and Scirocco. I can see not showing Scirocco, but with the AEUG infiltrating Axis right under her nose, you'd think Haman would show up for at least one scene at least. We do see a brief cameo here by Yazan, who doesn't do much since the Dogosse Giar blows up while he's out fighting. Now there's only two episodes left, so the real bloodbath will begin.
