Episode 6: To Earth

Review by Chris Guanche

June 12, 2000

Summary

A shuttle carrying Lila docks with the Alexandria. Jerid enters the briefing room and finds Federation soldiers joking about how special the Titans think they are. Jerid meets Lila in person, and she embarrasses him. Jamaican arrives and discusses strategy. They believe the Argama and Mont Blanc will attack the satellite defense system on their way to Earth. On the Argama, Kamille shows Astoniage a mobile suit design he calls the "Zeta Gundam." The Zeta Gundam basically combines the armor of the Rick Dias with a Mk II, as well as some new features. Kamille walks through the halls and follows Reccoa, but he turns away when he sees her talking to Char. He drops the Zeta Gundam disk, and Reccoa follows him to Emma's quarters. Kamille wanted to talk to her, but he leaves when Reccoa shows up. Reccoa talks to Emma about the Titans and the Colony 30 Incident at Side 1 in UC 0085. Bask ended an anti-Earth rally at Colony 30 by gassing all three million inhabitants with G-3 poison gas. At an observation room, Henken and Blex watch Reccoa and Emma's conversation, and Kamille overhears. Blex decides to take Emma to Colony 30 so she can see for herself the horror of the Titans. On the Alexandria, Jamaican decides that Jerid will lead the attack on the AEUG, to the objections of Lila. He confronts her, and she beats him up and embarrasses him. She tells him to stop acting spoiled, and she agrees to teach him what he needs to know as a pilot to defeat the Mk II. On the Argama, everyone prepares for battle. Char tells Kamille that Reccoa is leaving the ship to head for Earth.

Char says she'll be leaving in a capsule, and Kamille should hurry if he wants to speak to her. Kamille wants to say goodbye to her, but she tells him to leave. Char heads out in the Mk II with Apolly and Roberto flying support in their Rick Dias suits. Lila tells Jerid to feel the hostile intent of his enemy when fighting in space. She launches in her Galbaldy Beta, followed by Jerid and a Hizack squad. Char attacks the Federation defense satellites and begins to destroy them. As the Argama turns to launch Reccoa's shuttle to Jaburo, Kamille takes out the partially dismantled Mk II to protect her. Kamille encounters Jerid, and they begin fighting. Jerid slams into Kamille and prevents him from covering Reccoa. Kamille manages to get control of the situation, and Reccoa's capsule launches safely and heads for Jaburo. During the fierce battle, the Mont Blanc is destroyed. On Earth, Amuro relaxes at home and has a Newtype reaction and feels someone is calling him. Back in space, even missing one arm, Kamille manages to fight Jerid. Without a beam rifle, he uses the beam saber to cut off one of the Hizack's arms. Lila helps the defeated Jerid get away. In South America, the debris from the Mont Blanc falls to the ground like tiny meteors.

Commentary

An interesting episode with a surprise cameo appearance. The Jerid/Kamille conflict heats up even more, as Jerid is willing to put away his pride to fight Kamille. That means he's going to do something nasty in the future. The explanation of the Colony 30 incident is pretty brutal, and it shows just how serious Bask is about his job. The appearance of Amuro Ray in the episode is a total surprise. It's good to see him again, even if it is for only half a minute. Hopefully we'll see more of him in the future. People keep saying that Kamille is like Amuro, and based on his increasing skills, it seems true enough. Given time, he might even surpass the skills of Amuro, who has not fought in a battle since his last duel with Char at A Baoa Qu.
