Review by Brian Shea

April 17, 2007

Summary

Crewmembers work on repairs on the Solo Ship. Deck and Ashura play with the chickens in the forest dome. Karala tells a story of how meteors, thirteen in total have been falling on her home planet over the past two years. She says that the source of the meteors appeared to be planet Solo and that she feels that the Ide is involved. Cosmo remembers that the same sort of thing has been happening on Earth for the last two years as well. They discuss the Ide and whether it s something that can be controlled. Meanwhile in space Harulu tells Gyamus that she is returning to the Buff Clan home world soon, and wants a souvenir, particularly Karala and at least a part of the Giant God. Gyamus heads to the dock of the Sades Zan where he orders Dopu and Kiyaya Buff, known as the 'twin devils' to attack the Giant God using the Rogg Mack. On the Solo Ship Deck catches a large eel while fishing, which chases him and the other children. Cosmo rescues them. The Solo Ship deactivates the radar temporarily while making adjustments to it. Cosmo spots an undetected force of Buff Clan crafts which approached while the radar was off. The Buff Clan immediately attacks the Solo Ship. The Solo Ship raises its barrier, which deflects much of the attack. Despite still being injured, Karala heads to the bridge and tells them about the 'Twin Devils.' Bes orders Cosmo to head out and attack them. Cosmo launches on the Sol-Amber, but is immediately pushed back by the Rogg Mack's attack. The Ide gauge raises and the Solo raises its barrier to full strength, which creates a large shield of water around the ship.

Dopu reports to Gyamus about the barrier around the Solo Ship. The Ideon combines aboard the deck of the Solo Ship. The Buff Clan's Rogg Macks head through the water towards the Solo Ship. The barrier lowers as the Ideon launches. The Rogg Macks take the opportunity to ram themselves into the Solo Ship and blast it. The Ide gauge rises to full strength and beams of light emanate from the Solo Ship. The Ideon successfully destroys much of the Buff Clan s forces. The light emanating from the Solo Ship destroys one of the Rogg Macks. Dopu tells Kiyaya to cover him while he launches a suicide attack against the Solo Ship. He rams his Rogg Mack into the barrier around the Solo Ship. He manages to break through the barrier and launches a direct attack on the Solo Ship's bridge. The Ideon lowers its barrier and the Ideon grabs ahold of Dopu's Rogg Mack. Dopu launches his escape capsule when the Rogg Mack is destroyed and is promptly blown up when he attacks the Ideon. Kiyaya launches herself at the Ideon but is kicked away. She tells Gyamus she'll launch her own suicide attack against the enemy. The Ideon grabs ahold of the Sades Zan. Kiyaya's Rogg Mack rams itself into the Solo Ship's barrier. The Ideon turns back and grabs onto the Rogg Mack, which launches its own attack on the Ideon. The Ideon flings the Rogg Mack into the Solo Ship's barrier, which bounces off of it into the Sades Zan, blowing both up. A soldier reports to Harulu on the Dorowa Zan that Gyamus has been killed. Harulu wonders what would happen if the Ideon headed to the Buff Clan home world. Everyone gathers aboard the Solo Ship bridge, where they plan to depart Flag Star. Sheryl still wants to head to Earth and says that the Buff Clan won't come after them after today's battle. Cosmo says the Buff Clan's fights are driven by their fear of the Ideon and Solo Ship. Cosmo and Joliver think the Ide has a mind of its own. The Solo Ship takes off from Flag Star back into space.

Commentary

This episode doesn't offer much and is very similar to the dull episode that preceded it. As has already happened often in this series, Harulu's underling Gyamus fails to last that long and is killed after only two episodes. Although the change of scenery is nice, the vast majority of the last two episodes on Flag Star have consisted of rather drawn out boring battles. The only interesting thing about this episode is the revelation that meteors have been falling on both the Buff Clan home world and on Earth, and the Ide and Planet Solo appear to be involved. Outside of the discussions of the Ide at the beginning and end of the episode however, this is little more than filler.
