Episode 28: Wrath of the Wave Leader Gun

Review by Brian Shea

May 9, 2007

Gije sneaks into the Moonland base in order to steal a spaceship. A group of Earth Union Military ships, led by the Musasshi head towards the Solo Ship. Inspector General Frendali Limiter announces to the Solo Ship crew that they are to immediately hand over the Solo Ship and Ideon. Limiter tells Bes that they are doing this because they used Gloria without permission and lured the Buff Clan here. The Musasshi sends off a warning shot. Meanwhile aboard the Gerowa Zan Daram reports to the leader of the Ome Foundation, Gindoro Jinmu. Daram says they have enough strength for one more battle. Gindoro tells him that they will have to align themselves with Doba if they fail to take the Ideon in this battle. On the Buff Clan homeworld, a fleet of warships take off, led by Rukuku Kil's Garowa Zan. Harulu and Doba watch and discuss a recent speech of his. Doba leaves to go meet with Gindoro. Meanwhile back on the Moon, Sheryl departs from the Solo Ship on her own in a small craft. Sheryl says that since she used Gloria she should take full responsibility. Bes has Cosmo head out after her on the Sol-Amber. Cosmo tries talking her out of it but she refuses. The Musasshi fires at them but misses. Sheryl tells Cosmo they should escape from the Moon while she buys them time. Sheryl's craft lands on the Musasshi and she is brought to Limiter. Sheryl tells Limiter that the military will end up destroying itself if it uses the Ideon. Limiter says that the Ide works for the righteous, which is them, and that the military will be able to control it. Suddenly news of the approaching Buff Clan arrives both on the Musasshi and Solo Ship. The Musasshi and its fleet take off to face the Buff Clan. The nearby Gerowa Zan launches its forces, including another Galbo Jick. The Musasshi sends out a number of Cutlet crafts to take on the Buff Clan's Zlow Jicks. The Galbo Jick destroys two of the fleet's cruisers. Sheryl hopes Cosmo and the others can show the Earth military how to fight the Buff Clan. The Musasshi aims its main cannon at the Gerowa Zan and fires. The Gerowa Zan does the same. The three Ideon units approach one another so they can dock.

The Ideon docks inside a crevice on the Moon's surface. The Galbo Jick immediately combines as well. During the battle Cosmo thinks back about a device they found inside the Solo Ship that looks like a Giant Cannon and has energy tubes that can connect to the Ideon. Cosmo returns the Ideon to the Solo Ship and asks that they send out the cannon, which Cosmo calls the 'Ideon Gun.' Joliver warns Cosmo not to overheat the Ideon's engine. The Ideon connects the tubes of the Ideon Gun to it and aims, only for the Ideon gun not to fire due to a weakened Ideon gauge. The Galbo Jick fires upon the Ideon. Bes warns Limiter not to get in the Ideon's way during the battle. Limiter wants the Solo Ship and Ideon to retreat. Sheryl argues with Limiter and he has her locked up. The last Earth military ship other than the Musasshi is destroyed. Daram orders his forces to focus on the Giant God. The Gerowa Zan is able to strike the Musasshi with its shots. The Musasshi crashes into the Moon soon after. Cosmo realizes that the Ide's power has gone up. This time the Ideon Gun works when its fired, and the Galbo Jick and Gerowa Zan are instantly vaporized. The Gerowa Zan's escape capsule narrowly escapes. Cosmo is amazed at the power displayed by the Ideon Gun with just a fraction of its energy. Limiter orders the damaged Musasshi to fire upon the Solo Ship, but the Solo Ship avoids the attacks. Hatari wants to fire back but Bes tells him not to. The Ideon lands in front of the Musasshi. Limiter claims the Ideon is cursed just before he is blown up in an explosion. The Ideon starts tearing its way through the Musasshi in order to find Sheryl. Sheryl is still locked up and is unable to break her way out. The Ideon manages to tear its way in and rescue her. Sheryl admits that she had wanted to return to the Earth alone but has realized after today that the Solo Ship is her only home. The remains of the Musasshi blow up. Meanwhile Gije, wearing an Earth spacesuit, boards a small transport that is nearing the Solo Ship. The Solo Ship looks towards the Earth. Cosmo screams out "Idiots!" as another meteor heads towards the Earth.

This episode features the premiere of the Ideon's most powerful weapon, the Ideon Gun (also known as the Wave Leader Gun). As with the episode before it, the plot continues to be moving rapidly. The Earth Union Military has now shown themselves to be just as bad as the people on Ajian as they try to take the Ideon and Solo Ship by force. Gije, fully aware of the fact that he's been abandoned by Daram, appears to be trying to infiltrate the Solo Ship by stealing an Earth space suit on the Moon. We finally get to meet Karala's father Doba, and see the Buff Clan homeworld for the first time (although for only a very short scene). We also meet the leader of the Ome Foundation, Gindoro, who appears to be allying himself with Doba to overthrow the emperor. Throw in another excellent battle around the Moon and you've got another all around great episode.
