A remake of Akira Kurosawa's classic 1954 film Seven Samurai, Samurai 7 attempts to bring the classic movie into the new age with stunning visuals and a sci-fi twist. First airing in 2004, the series was directed by Toshifumi Takizawa (Dirty Pair), with character designs by Hideki Hashimoto (Heat Guy J) and Takuhito Kusanagi (Blue Submarine No. 6). Following a great war, bandits, who have given up their bodies for mechanical improvements, loot peasant villages for rice, demanding it in exchange for their lives. One village has had enough and decides to hire samurai. Kirara, the village priestess, goes out to find samurai worthy of the cause. The series is available on DVD from FUNimation, and it's currently airing on the Independent Film Channel.
