Episode 27: Red Savior

Review by Joel Jankiewicz

July 5, 2004

Summary

On the Orbital Ring, spidercrabs start descending towards the Earth but meet no resistance. They plunge into the ground all over the Earth, and start becoming spore plants. There is a ruined city near by, and a single spidercrab is wandering through its streets. Inside the buildings, a desert band is hiding, and then set off a trap, which the spidercrab falls into. It lands into a glue like material, and can’t get loose. The leader of the band, named Afendi, tells them it won’t break loose for a while, but the boy named Rasheed wonders if the “Red Savior” will come. Afendi happens to be his grandfather, and asks him what he means. Rasheed says the Red Savior is Tekkaman-Blade, but his father doesn’t believe him, and says they must fight by themselves in order to survive. Just as the tribe leaves, a new wanderer who has his face hidden walks to the pit where the spidercrab is trapped, and looks at it for a minute. The band members later lift a large stone door out of the ground, and two men walk down a tunnel to a generator, and turn it on. The band settles in, and starts eating and drinking again. Afendi talks to the new wanderer, and says he probably won’t be last to join his band. Rasheed walks up to the man and asks him if he wants a drink, and the man accepts it. Suddenly a new spidercrab shows up, and attacks the village. The band members simple rifles can’t stop it, and everyone makes a dash and runes away. The new band member pulls out an energy pistol and tells Rasheed and Afendi to run. The man fires a few rounds, and manages to get the spidercrab to follow him. He dashes into a building, but the spidercrab tries to demolish it when it can’t reach inside. Rasheed and Afendi watch, and then an energy blast rips the spidercrab’s right claw off, then another two shots kills the spidercrab. As dust is scattering about, a large figure is in the smoke, and Rasheed assumes it is Tekkaman-Blade.

The dust clears, and Rasheed looks in shock as the figure is not Tekkaman-Blade, but the Sol Tekkaman armor, Noal in this case. Axe and a small army of spidercrabs arrive at the village, and Axe confirms that it isn’t Blade. Axe says that he won’t be a challenge to fight, but Noal decides to fight him anyway. Noal fires at Axe, but none of his shots can even hit him, and Axe brings Noal down on his knees in two swings. Rasheed runs out to help, but Noal tells him to keep away. Rasheed says he wants to help, but Noal tells him it’s his fight. Noal fires another shot, and Axe is surprised he still wants to fight. Axe hits Noal’s armor again, but Noal refuses to give up. Axe jumps at another of Noal’s shots and damages his main gun, and drops him to the ground. Just before Axe can finish him, a Vol-Tekker blast just barely strikes Axe against his back, and he can’t believe who did it. Tekkaman-Blade is riding Pegas, and finally arrives. He and Pegas go into battle mode, and start destroy all the spidercrabs that had accompanied Axe. Rasheed and his grandfather watch, and Afendi apologizes to Rasheed. Blade comes down and fights Axe, and they both seem to be equals. Blade manages to his energy line and trip Axe, but his attack just misses Axe just when he defends himself. Axe punches Blade in the stomach, stunning him, and he makes a break for it. Blade demands that Axe stay and fight, but Axe says he’ll return to fight again, and flies off. Blade thanks Noal for helping out the village, and Rasheed thanks both of them for their help. Later in the evening, Noal talks with D-Boy, and asks him why he never contacted anyone of the past months. D-Boy says that he was lost, and that he lost his family. He has a flash back of Miyuki’s death at that moment, and Noal apologizes to him, saying how everyone cared for her. D-Boy says he needs to get to the moon, but Noal tells him there are no ships now. D-Boy says he can fly there on his own, but needs the Tekkaman Crystal from another Tekkaman in order to do so. Noal doesn’t know about the plan, and D-Boy says it can work since Miyuki told him where Omega’s ship was on the moon. Noal apologizes to him again, and D-Boy accepts it. D-Boy asks him how everyone else, and Noal tells him to walk with him to the rest of the gang. It’s now nighttime, and next to their Land Cruiser (Happens to be named Green Earth), Rebin and Milly are complaining about the supper made. While they argue, Aki is washing dishes, when D-Boy and Noal come up and D-Boy asks him if he can help. Aki is shocked to see him again, and she can’t find any words to say. Noal shoves D-Boy forward, and Aki accidentally knocks a glass over, causing Milly and Rebin to notice. D-Boy tells Aki how beautiful she is, saying he really means it. Aki starts crying and runs up to D-Boy, and hugs him. She tells him how much she cares for him, and D-Boy holds her, saying he’ll never leave her.

Commentary

After a recap episode in which also counted as an absence of D-Boy, of much of the cast, they manage to get together once again. But not much about the plot develops here, other than the fact that the Axe Arc has now started. This episode is a bit of a filler, as it just shows the hardship the villagers go through. Aside from Axe's attack and the gang getting back together, not much else happens.
