Episode 38: Amnesia

Review by Joel Jankiewicz

Summary

A helicopter with a doctor inside heads towards the Space Knights Alaska base. They get clearance to land, and Freeman shows the doctor to the medical room. The other Space Knights are there, and Milly tells Freeman that D-Boy is still in a coma. The doctor starts doing his tests and begins to round down problems, when Honda and Rebin come into the lab as well and ask if there are any results. The doctor tells the crew that D-Boy has some hemorrhaging he can’t find any other problems. Freeman asks if D-Boy is ok, but the doctor tells him he only seems to be ok. He tells the Space Knights that when D-Boy wakes up soon, they’ll know for certain. Freeman begins to wonder if the ideas he had about D-Boy were wrong, but the rest of the gang hopes for the best. Later, Balzak finds Noal in the suit hanger, and asks him what’s wrong. Noal tells Balzak that if D-Boy wasn’t going to make it, they’d be fighting on their own. Both agree that they’ll be happy to see D-Boy fight again. On the moon, at the Radam base, Omega is thankful to see Evil recovered, and Evil says he’s ready to fight again. Omega says that he can’t leave the ship until his strength is restored, and wishes Evil the best of luck in hunting down Blade (D-Boy). Evil leaves, and Omega thinks about conquest, as pods inside the ship begin to come alive, with dozens of strange insects inside. At the Alaska base, decides to see D-Boy in the recovery room, but finds him missing. D-Boy is in the garden section of the base, carrying a bottle of alcohol with him. He finds Barnard’s grave, and pays his respects, and leaves the bottle at the grave. Aki finds D-Boy and asks him if he’s ready to be walking around, but he seems quiet. She changes topic and asks about the plants inside compared to the Alaska weather, but D-Boy asks her if she could call him “Takaya” or “Takaya Aiba”. Aki agrees, but accidentally calls him D-Boy again in the process. D-Boy starts to walk away, and Aki follows him. At the Orbital Ring, Shinya arrives to find Hun Rii watching spidercrabs descend to Earth. He demands to know where Morimotoh is, but Hun Rii tells him he died fighting Blade. She also tells him that Blade is in Alaska, and Shinya asks her to come with him to fight his brother. She says she can’t as she was given command of the forces on the Orbital Ring, and Shinya leaves, and heads for Earth in his Tekkaman form.

At the Alaska Base, Freeman briefs the Space Knights on what they know so far about Radam. He says there may be no way of knowing why D-Boy’s family was chosen, but he theorizes that Radam need other ‘surrogate’ bodies to carry out their plans. He also says that the spidercrabs themselves, are not true Radam, and that the Tekkaman are much like lieutenants, leading them into battle since spidercrabs have no minds of their own. The crew speculate, and Freeman opens a window and shows the Space Knights once again the spore plant with the Primary Body Tekkaman from before. He says that the spidercrabs ready the land and turn into spore plants, but says the one they have bloomed early. Milly begins to wonder about the other plants around the world, and Balzak says he has a good idea, but doesn’t like the answer. The question to cut the spore plants comes up, and Honda says there is too many to cut down, but doesn’t understand why Radam needs to capture humans to become Tekkaman to win over the Earth. D-Boy says that he can take the fight to Omega at the moon, since he believes his powers are strong enough now. Outside the base, Shinya stands in the cold, and tries to call to D-Boy. D-Boy is in his recovery room, and looks at a picture of Miyuki on the bed. He can’t sleep and decides to have a chat with Aki on a video monitor. He just catches Aki half changed and is surprised to see him. She says she was getting ready to have a shower, but accidentally calls him D-Boy again. D-Boy asks Aki why she keeps calling him that, and Aki says that’s the name he wanted to go by. D-Boy says his name is Takaya Aiba and that he doesn’t ever remember the name D-Boy. Aki is shocked, and realizes something’s wrong with him. She visits Freeman and tells him what happened, and they see the doctor to go over D-Boy’s data again. The doctor is stumbled, as he can’t find anything wrong, but says he seems to be suffering from some form of memory loss. The doctor says it doesn’t seem to bad, but there is no way of knowing if it’ll get worse with the possibility of mistaken identity. Meanwhile, Shinya is inside the base, and calls out to his brother again. D-Boy feels Shinya calling him, and when he starts following the call, he runs into Aki who wants to help him with his memory. He tells her that Shinya has come, but Aki says he’s not ready to fight. D-Boy says he is, and runs off on his own. He takes a vehicle and follows the call, finding Shinya in an empty part of the base. D-Boy tells him that their fight ends here, but Shinya seems surprised about his brother’s reaction and asks him what’s bothering him. They start to fight, and end up in an elevator. Shinya tosses D-Boy into a panel and activates it, sending the elevator up. The fight seems to be a draw, while Shinya asks D-Boy about the fights they had. Shinya throws himself and D-Boy out of the glass wall, and fall onto a light post, landing in another garden section of the base. Shinya Tekk-Setters, turning into Evil, and D-Boy calls Pegas to Tekk-Setter. In a repair bay, Honda and Rebin here the alarm go off, and Pegas activates. One of Evil’s shoulder armors folds into his hand and a blade forms, and he tries to slice D-Boy. D-Boy fights back, but Evil just toys with him. Pegas arrives and gives D-Boy covering fire, and D-Boy jumps into Pegas to become Tekkaman-Blade. Freeman briefs the Space Knights about what’s happening, and talks about D-Boy’s memory loss. Aki is concerned about the memory loss effecting D-Boy’s fighting skills, but Milly is confused about this, and wonders what it’s all about. Freeman tells Noal and Balzak to get going, and they head out. Blade and Evil duke it out, but Blade has turned aggressive and seems to have the advantage. Evil throws his weapon at Blade, and knocks him down onto the ground and he loses his weapon. Evil raises his weapons, and swings down at Blade, and seems to hit him.

Commentary

This episode is a little slow, but once again important. While D-Boy has recovered somewhat, he seems to be suffering from short-term memory loss it would seem. More info on the spore plants is gone over, and we see Shinya’s return. Once again a cliffhanger, as we just see Evil strike down. Wonder what the result is.
