Review by Joel Jankiewicz

December 29, 2005

Summary

Dead End is wondering down a flight of stairs, remembering his conversation with David, he eventually makes it to a bottom level, where a large steel door opens, revealing the large TekkaPlant that was used in the Prague Rebellion. Back at the Space Knights base, everyone is mostly sleeping, but David also remembering his conversations with Dead End, and can’t sleep. Aki is sleeping in the medical bay, but D-Boy walks up, and sneaks by her. He remembers what he told Aki about how there was no absolute being, and heads towards Yumi’s quarters. Yumi is brushing her hair, when D-Boy enters the room, and nearly collapses. Yumi runs up to help him, and then D-Boy asks her for a favor. Later, the original Blue-Earth leaves the base, and the crew gets word that Yumi and D-Boy have left together for some reason. David believes that ever since Dead End showed up…everyone’s been going mad. Some time passes by, and Hayato is sitting at the dock near the shoreline, chucking stones. He mentions how D-Boy and Yumi have been now missing for a month, and that they can’t find them. Honda walks by and throws a rock too, and asks Hayato if he’s thinking about where Yumi went too. He says that perhaps they ran away, but Hayato says that Yumi will return and that he believes in her. Honda says if that’s what he thinks, then to not worry, and to have faith that she’ll return since Honda knows that Hayato loves her. He jokes about having such lines when he was Hayato’s age, then tells him to go see Aki for a meeting. The Space Knights meet with Aki, and she informs them that they’ve found Dead End in Old Town Prague, and has located the TekkaPlant used in the rebellion five years ago. She goes on to say that the reason Dead End is so strong is because the TekkaPlant wasn’t built by humans. She says it was a remnant of Radam’s original system that was used to format D-Boy into Tekkaman-Blade ten years ago in the first Radam War. That same plant created “Mikhail”, the Rebellion’s leader, and now Dead End. At the same time, the TekkaPlant, along with Dead End, rise up on an elevator, and emerge in the middle of a massive crater, where the original city of Prague used to be. Anita asks why he’d be there, and David says he’s there to die. He goes onto say that Dead End is probably hoping the military will mobilize to stop him, and when we see Dead End, he’s carved his name onto the side of the TekkaPlant. Goliate is angered by all the talk about Prague and grabs onto David, but Natasha tells him that she doesn’t mind, and Goliate slowly calms down. Aki shows them a map, showing Europe and how there are Primary Body revolts starting up. Since Blade was defeated, Primary Bodies now view Dead End as an ally to aid them, but the Space Knights realize that there is now a chance that there could be another Black September of Prague, with another massive bomb drop. Aki leaves and says she’ll try to stop the military from taking drastic action, while the Space Knights head to Prague and prevent any Primary Bodies from entering the area. Blue-Earth Craft launches, while Natasha prays Aki will be successful, since she’s dealing with her father. Aki gets onto the Orbital Ring and goes to the main military HQ, but armed guards stop her, but she says she’s there to speak with General Pavlochiva (Natasha’s father), but warhead is already being prepared. Blue-Earth Craft passes over a massive highway, and the Space Knights see thousands upon thousands of Primary Body Tekkaman marching. David tells Natasha to keep going towards Prague, and they keep going. Aki manages to get into a meeting, but not with Pavlochiva, and she knows the 3 officer’s she’s talking with are just to stall her. From a massive room, Pavlochiva cuts the monitor to the meeting, and watches as the Reactor Bomb is getting ready for launch against Prague.

Blue-Earth Craft finally makes it back to the original Prague site, and lands next to the giant crater. David goes out alone to talk to Dead, and Dead says he’d knew David would come. Natasha and the others wait, and she tells the rest of the Space Knights to have faith and wait. David asks Dead End to stop the madness and not let the Primary Bodies get involved. He even asks Dead End to join them as a Space Knight. Dead End says he can’t, and says he couldn’t even if he wanted to. He tells David that his memory won’t let him forget, and tells David he has another chance to kill him. David refuses, but Dead End Tekk-Setters anyway into Tekkaman-Dead. Natasha realizes David’s plan didn’t work, and Tekk-Sets as well. Dead attacks David, who still hasn’t Tekk-Settered, and asks him why he won’t kill him. Dead attacks him again, and his sword wouldn’t killed David, but Vesna blocked it with her own weapon. Vesna tells David to Tekk-Set, and that the longer he waits, the more things will become a disaster for everyone. The Primary Bodies haven’t stopped marching, and Aki isn’t going anywhere with her attempts to stop the launch. Vesna is fighting a losing battle, even with Hayato, Goliate, and Anita helping her with the Blue-Earth Craft, and David still can’t make up his mind. Meanwhile, nearby a beach, a Reactor Vol-Tekker blast heads towards Blade, but he somehow manages to stop it. A few minutes later, Yumi helps D-Boy onto the beach, and tells him he’s done great with what he’s done. D-Boy says it’s thanks to her efforts to help him, but when she asks him about David and Dead End, he says they’ll both be alright. They both leave the beach using the Crystal Field to travel, and head towards Prague. Vesna and the Blue-Earth Craft are finally beaten, and Dead holds his weapon next to Vesna, telling David he won’t be interested in a small fry if he Tekk-Sets. But Vesna says that her father is Glieff Pavlochiva, and that she is his daughter. She says that her father gave the order to burn down Prague into black soil, and David tells her to stop. But Dead is already far angered, and gets ready to strike Vesna down. David can’t wait anymore and Tekk-Sets, knocking Dead away from Vesna. Goliate and Anita watch the fight, while Hayato lies on the ground unconscious. They both notice that the Primary Body Tekkaman march has finally reached Prague, and wonder what’ll happen next. In the Orbital Ring, the main staff are waiting for the final orders to deploy the Reactor Bomb. Sommer tries to convince Dead one more time, but Dead tells him still to kill him, and they both charge at each other. But a Lightning Eagle breaks them up, and heads towards the sky above the crater. Dead sees Blade, and goes straight after him, but Yumi stops Sommer from going after him. She tells Sommer what happened with her and Blade, and says she’s been helping him with special training. Anita is happy to hear this, and Goliate can’t help but sigh as Hayato isn’t awake to hear this. Blade and Dead duke it out again, but as Dead tells Blade he can’t beat him, Blade asks him if he’s simply giving up on life. Back on the Orbital Ring, Aki finally leaves the military base, her attempts to stop the launch unsuccessful. Dead tells Blade that he can’t understand his feelings and about his lose, and shoves him into the ground. Vesna and Sommer want to help, but Yumi holds them back. Blade gets up battered and almost beat again, and Dead asks him if he’s the one wanting to die badly. Blade says he can’t be beaten, and Yumi finally Tekk-Sets into Hiver. She says that Blade’s weapon is his dream for humanity and to survive, and that is his weapon and greatest strength. She goes to the front of the Primary Body march, and uses the Reactor Vol-Tekker to creator a barrier around the crater. On the Orbital Ring, Aki thinks to herself, saying that as long as Blade wants to live and succeed, so will the human race. Blade fires the Vol-Tekker at Dead, but the shoulder armor opens and simply absorb the Vol-Tekker blast(Which explains why the Reactor Vol-Tekker didn’t work before on Dead), and Dead fires his own Vol-Tekker at Blade. Hiver tells Blade to do what he learned, and Blade fires the Vol-Tekker again, but uses it to catch Dead’s own blast and contain it in a sphere. Dead is caught by surprise, and Blade tosses it and jumps into the blast and guides it back to Dead. An explosion follows from the combined blast, and the TekkaPlant is completely destroyed, with Dead now not looking well himself. Blade points his weapon at him, but just cuts the mask off his helmet, revealing Dead’s faceplate. He tells him that Dead has already died, and tells him to live on now. Sommer walks up to Dead, and helps him up, realizing the fight is now over. Dead end accepts David’s help, realizing he can’t do what he was doing before. Vesna tells Hiver the fights over, and stops the Reactor Vol-Tekker when the Primary Bodies begin to leave. But Blade gets a strange feeling, and the Reactor Bomb is finally launched. Aki sees this and Tekk-Setters into Red, and tries to the stop the bomb by herself. Everyone back on Earth tries to go help, but Dead says he’ll take care of it and tosses Sommer a gem that then turns into the cross he had. Dead manages to get into Orbit on his own and put Red back on Pegasus, and moves ahead of the warhead. He fires his Vol-Tekker, and the Space Knights in Prague watch the entire sky light up, and David screams out Dead’s name, seeing what Dead did anyway. Some time has now passed, and the Space Knights are summoned to stop another Radam attack, but an officer tells them that something is already attacking the Radam fleet and that they’re starting to disappear. The Space Knights are in shock, and David begins to think who it might be, and they launch. The Radam fleet fighting a battle, and a Lightning Eagle carves out entire chunks of the Radam fleet. It’s Tekkaman-Dead, and he’s fighting Radam now. Just before a Radam Tekkaman attacks him from the back, an energy blast kills it, and the Space Knights have caught up to him. David is happy to see Dead alive, and gives him a thumbs up. The Space Knights, along with Dead, engage the Radam fleet, with Aki and D-Boy watching from the main ship with confidence.

Commentary

And that for now…is the end. Although it’s more of an open end than a true ending to everything. I was happy to see Dead finally able to come to his senses and realize he couldn’t continue his way of life towards suicide, although it did take him long enough. Blade was also finally able to beat him, and I must say, using the Vol-Tekker to catch another Vol-Tekker blast is fairly original. Whether though Natasha’s father will pay for what he nearly did, we’ll never know, and we can only guess as to what happens from here. I don’t think anyone doubts that Earth will EVENTUALLY win against Radam, but that’s left to people to think about for this open ending, as they engage another Radam fleet with confidence. There have been several fanfics and so forth, as some I guess can’t wait, but there is no word on a third sequel being made, but I guess that can’t stop one from dreaming. This 6 part OVA has been a solid ride, with a fair amount of development for a good chunk of the cast. Although I do wish they clarified some issues better, we should be thankful with what we have. Is it better than Tekkaman Blade? Probably not, as normally the predecessor normally does better. But is this OVA bad? Far from it! This has been an excellent ride. For now, and perhaps for the last time, we say good-bye to D-Boy, the characters, and the world of Tekkaman Blade, as now the OVA, and the story, has come to a close.
