Suit Gundam novels
In 1980, Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino published a trilogy of novels based on the series. Rather than being a condensed adaptation, the novels offer an almost entirely different story. Set entirely in space, the novels feature characters never seen in the anime, as well as less mecha and a more adult focus. In 1990, the novels became the first ever Gundam item to be translated into English and published in the U.S. Originally published by Del Rey, the series was out of print until it was re-published in a single volume by Stone Bridge Press in 2004.
