Mobile Suit Gundam SEED

Premiering in 2002, the TV series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED combined the story of the original series with the visual flair of Gundam Wing. As with other Gundam series, SEED received its own manga and novel adaptation of the TV series. Aside from that, there is also an official side story called Mobile Suit Gundam SEED ASTRAY. In Cosmic Era (C.E.) 70, tensions between genetically modified Coordinators and unmodified Naturals escalate into war. Using its advanced mobile suits, the Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty (ZAFT) strikes back at the Earth Alliance and invades Earth. As the war drags into a stalemate, the Alliance secretly develops its own mobile suits at the Orb Union's neutral space colony Heliopolis. In early C.E. 71, ZAFT attacks Heliopolis to steal the new prototype Gundam mobile suits. Sixteen-year-old engineering student Kira Yamato is caught in the middle of the conflict and reluctantly becomes the pilot of the Alliance's Strike Gundam. As Kira fights to protect his friends, he is forced to confront his best friend Athrun Zala, who has become a ZAFT pilot. The manga is available in the U.S. from Del Rey, while the novels are being published by TOKYOPOP.
