Technical and Historical Notes
Following the overwhelming success of the prototype Z-01 Lancelot during the Black Rebellion, the Holy Britannian Empire sets about creating a new mass production model inspired by it. In order to test the viability of such a machine, the Britannian engineers first create an early trial type, dubbed the RPI-212 Vincent. The Vincent combines elements of the Lancelot and its sister unit, the Z-01b Lancelot Club, and scales them back to more economical levels while retaining excellent performance. In addition to slash harkens and lance-type maser swords, the Vincent has a unique weapon called the needle blazer. This device, a development of the Lancelot's own "Blaze Luminous" maser shield, emits a short-range blast of focused energy that can punch right through enemy armor with devastating effect. At this early stage of development, the Vincent lacked a set color scheme, and each individual unit was colored to its pilot's tastes. The first Vincent unit, a pre-production model painted gold with red accents, is piloted by Britannian assassin and Geass user Rolo Haliburton, who at the time uses the name Rolo Lamperouge in order to keep a close eye on Lelouch Lamperouge, formerly known as the rebel leader Zero. A second Vincent, painted metallic white with purple accents and officially designated the RPI-212A Vincent Commander Type, is piloted by Gilbert G.P. Guilford when he attempts to thwart the Black Knights' plan to kidnap Area 11's new Viceroy. Though Rolo defects to the Black Knights and Guilford's unit is destroyed in its first battle, the Vincent is considered proven, and Britannia created a full production model, named the Vincent Ward.
