Though the original Z-01 Lancelot is a wildly successful design and helps make Suzaku Kururugi a highly respected and feared pilot, its designer Lloyd Asplund isn't satisfied. Taking the entire design back to the drawing board, he refines it from the ground up, producing an entirely new model rather than simply modifying the existing Lancelot. This new machine, the Z-01Z Lancelot Albion, refines the Lancelot's experimental technologies even further while adding several new ones. The most prominent of these is Cecilé Croomy's Energy Wing System, an improvement on the Float System flight pack. First tested in the Type-02/F1Z Guren SEITEN, the Energy Wings provide incredible maneuverability and speed as well as a full-body energy shield. The Albion's wing system would be refined even further, allowing it to release blasts of energy as an offensive measure. Additionally, the Lancelot's VARIS rifle is redesigned into a new form, featuring two standard barrels for rapid fire and a larger one for charged shots. The Lancelot Albion makes its combat debut after Suzaku sides with the new Britannian Emperor, Lelouch vi Britannia, and is declared the Emperor's Knight of Zero. In its first battle, the Albion manages to single-handedly defeat the entire force sent to arrest Lelouch, including four Knights of the Round all at the same time. The Lancelot Albion serves as Suzaku's personal unit for the remainder of the war between Japan and Britannia, until it is dealt critical damage in a one-on-one battle with the Guren SEITEN and is destroyed.
