Technical and Historical Notes
A heavy siege weapon, the Raikou is developed by the Japanese Liberation Front for their attempted capture of the Lake Kamigawa Hotel. Built from at least four RPI-11 Glasgow units, the Raikou mounts a large electromagnetic cannon which fires case-shot, releasing a hail of smaller projectiles at its targets. In order to keep itself defended, the Raikou also mounts four linear cannons where the Glasgow "leg" units' arms used to be. The JLF places the Raikou in the underground service tunnel that runs from the hotel to the mainland, preventing any enemy forces from slipping in as well as protecting the central, lode-bearing column of the hotel, whose destruction would force an evacuation. All attempts to break through fail until the Special Technical Unit received permission to deploy Warrant Officer Suzaku Kururugi and the Z-01 Lancelot. With his skills and the Lancelot's exceptional abilities, Suzaku is able to avoid the Raikou's powerful cannon and take out the weapon with one well-placed shot from the VARIS rifle. A second Raikou used later by the Order of the Black Knights is also destroyed by Suzaku.
