Technical and Historical Notes

Following the success of the Type-02 Guren Mk-II, the Kyoto House funds a new Knightmare Frame based upon it. This machine becomes the Type-3F Gekka, bearing many similarities to the Guren but being streamlined for mass production. The large, claw-like arm of the Guren is replaced with a more standard arm, allowing the Gekka to wield normal weapons. Four Gekkas are produced with a distinctive silver coloration and handed to the Four Holy Swords, some of the last remaining members of the Japanese Liberation Front. Unfortunately, their leader, former general Kyoshiro Tohdoh, is captured by Britannia and sentenced to death. Requesting the help of the Order of the Black Knights, the Four Holy Swords are able to rescue Tohdoh, who enters the battle in his personal Gekka, painted black and featuring hair-like ornamentation on either side of the head. Following the escape, Tohdoh and the Four Holy Swords formally join the Black Knights, with Tohdoh's Gekka gaining a custom brake blade which mounts thrusters on the reverse edge and a slash harken on its hilt. One year after the disastrous collapse of the Black Rebellion, the Gekka are systematically destroyed in battle with Britannian forces. However, the Gekka's design and feedback from Tohdoh and the Four Holy Swords are used to create the Black Knights' new mass production model Knightmare Frame, the Akatsuki.
