An experimental commander-use mobile suit, the EMS-VSX1 Quavarze was created by the Jupiter Empire for the purpose of taking on the Crossbone Vanguard's elite mobile suits, specifically the two Crossbone Gundams. To counter the Gundams' strong close combat abilities, the Quavarze was similarly given exceptional close-quarters combat skills. Its most distinctive feature was a set of bladed whips called snake hands, which mounted on its forearms and gave it short-range melee abilities. The snake hands also mounted beam cutters, which could be thrown as ranged weapons or used as beam saws. Because of these weapons, the Quavarze could attack a target at close range without putting itself in range of the enemy's melee weapons. For long-range combat, the Quavarze mounted a powerful mega particle cannon in its head, which would split apart to fire. Maintaining a high basic efficiency, the Quavarze could also transform into a mobile armor mode capable of atmospheric flight. The Quavarze was assigned to the Death Gale Team and piloted by Giri, a fanatical young Jupiter Empire pilot. In their battles with the Crossbone Vanguard, the Quavarze played the role of main offense, striking while the enemy was distracted by the EMS-VSX2 Abijo or EMS-VSX3 Totuga. After following Tobia Arronax to Earth, Giri would be too distracted trying to kill Tobia Arronax to defend against the sudden appearance of the XM-X1 (F97) Crossbone Gundam X-1 Kai, and the Quavarze was destroyed.
