On October 2, C.E. 73, the Earth Alliance's Phantom Pain unit conducts a raid on ZAFT's Armory One PLANT and steals three new Gundam model mobile suits. After examining the specs of these suits, the Alliance creates the GAT-X399/Q Wild Dagger, based on the ZGMF-X88S (RGX-03) Gaia Gundam. The Wild Dagger features the same quadruped mode as the Gaia Gundam, although its armaments differ. As a counter-insurgency mobile suit, the Wild Dagger is armed with vulcan guns, beam sabers, a Gatling cannon, tail cannon and multipurpose turret (which can carry beam cannons, missile launchers, swords, etc). In addition, the Wild Dagger can also use hand weapons designed for the GAT-02L2 Dagger L. Although the Wild Dagger is a prototype design, it is put into limited mass production and 72 units are built.
