Technical
and Historical Notes
One of many
Gundam F90 optional armament variations
developed by the Earth Federation Forces' SNRI during the early
UC 0120s, the F90P Gundam F90 Plunge Type (or "P-Type", for
short) was designed to allow a normally spaceborne mobile suit
the ability to quickly re-enter Earth's atmosphere and perform
aerial combat. The Gundam F90 P-Type's entire body was equipped
with various packs which mounted additional thrusters and aerodynamic
control surfaces to facilitate flight in its fighter mode. The
lifting body surfaces mounted on the forearms not only served
as the fighter mode's wings, but also served as a shield to
protect the Gundam during re-entry from space, and they also
served as shields for the mobile suit mode. Due to its configuration
and the fact that the P-Type F90's hardpoints were mostly used
to carry the fighter mode equipment, the P-Type was very lightly
armed, mounting only the fixed vulcan guns in the head and a
beam cannon on the left shoulder that could also be used in
fighter mode.
