During the One Year War, the Principality of Zeon wreaks havoc in desert environments with designs such as the MS-06D Zaku Desert Type and YMS-09D Dom Tropical Test Type. This leads the Earth Federation to develop their own desert combat mobile suit, the RGM-79F Desert GM. The Desert GM's body is a variation of the RGM-79F Land Combat Type GM. It is equipped with reactive armor, as well as special joints to deal with the intake of sand. The Desert GM is armed with a beam spray gun, a beam saber and a combination railcannon with missile pod. The Desert GM is deployed mainly in Near and Middle East and Northern Africa.
