Technical and Historical Notes

In UC 0080, the Earth Federation Forces begin development of the RX-78SP Gunner Gundam, a mobile suit with medium-range support capabilities. The Gunner Gundam features a new backpack with sensors and jamming equipment, plus a retractable eye shield. Its weapons include beam sabers, vulcan guns and a long-range beam rifle that incorporates Zeon technology. However, the EFF determines that the RX-78-6 Gundam 6th fulfills the role of the Gunner Gundam. The design never moves past the mockup stage, and the cancellation of development is made public later in the year.
