In preparation for its planned assault on the Earth Federation Forces' underground South American Jaburo military headquarters during the One Year War, the Zeon military forces stationed at California Base developed a series of specialized mobile suits to aid in the assault. One of these units was the EMS-05 Agg, designed primarily to bore through rock and create tunnels for combat mobile suits to use to invade Jaburo from the inside. The Agg was equipped with a pair of stubby hovercraft "feet" instead of standard walking legs, and mounted two large drills on its arms, a pair of rock grinders/cutters on its shoulders, and a laser torch in its torso to help in cutting through and breaking down rubble. Though its combat capability was almost nil, it could be outfitted with missile launchers in place of its drilling equipment to serve in a fire support role. However, the Aggs built at California Base were never deployed, as Zeon's Commander Char Aznable discovered the secret spacedock entrance to Jaburo long before the scheduled assault, and launched a hasty attack with what limited resources he could receive from California Base in time.
