In its military buildup for the anticipated war against the Earth Federation, the Principality of Zeon's military is already hard at work developing an improved version of its first combat-capable mobile suit, the MS-05B Zaku I. The first of Zeonic Company's new model Zaku II, the MS-06A Early Type (or "A-type"), is completed in August UC 0077 and sees the introduction of external power cables and other minor improvements over the old Zaku I. The director of the project, Kycilia Zabi, declares the A-type Zaku II insufficient, and more improvements are later made, leading to the mass-produced MS-06C Zaku II Type C (and later the well-known MS-06F model).
