Technical
and Historical Notes

As Zeon
worked to upgrade or replace its aging MS-06
Zaku II line during the One Year War of the Universal Century
Era, their intended replacement for the space-use MS-06F
was a new high-performance model with the model number MS-11.
As development of the MS-11 continued, a MS-06R-1A
Zaku II High Mobility Type was heavily modified to serve
as a testbed unit for the MS-11's development team. Incorporating
the MS-11's powerful reactor and cooling system, this testbed
MS-06R-2P could use beam weapons. The R-2P unit was so heavily
and continually modified over its service life that it earned
the nickname "MS-06R-3 Zaku III." However, the appearance of
the Earth Federation Forces' RX-78-2
Gundam, operating with superb performance and carrying its
own hand-held beam weapons, forced the Zeon engineers to re-think
their own design concept. The MS-11 project was scrapped and
restarted as the design project for the more ambitious MS-14
Gelgoog. The MS-11 model number, now no longer being used,
was later assigned to the Pezun Project's Acht
Zaku.
