Technical
and Historical Notes
Near
the end of the One Year War, the Earth Federation Forces' mobile
suit engineers made a last revision to the RX-77-2
Guncannon line. Following the success of the RX-77-3
Guncannon Heavy Weapons Type, they produced the new RX-77-4
Guncannon II, this time replacing the old shell-lobbing 240
mm cannons with a single, rapid-fire beam cannon on the right
shoulder guided by a precision targeting sensor suite on the
left shoulder. By removing the heavy old cannons and their ammo
and replacing them with the lighter beam cannon and targeting
sensors, the Guncannon II was lighter than previous incarnations
and could make small, rocket-assisted jumps while fighting on
the ground. Developed at the recaptured California Base in North
America, at least eight Guncannon IIs were built, some participating
in the Federation's North American offensive.
