Technical and Historical Notes

While Zeonic Company was developing their YMS-07A Prototype Gouf to replace the aging MS-06J Zaku II during the Universal Century Era's One Year War, the military engineers of Zeon's Earth Attack Force was also working on their own competing land combat mobile suit design. Their YMS-08A, known simply as the "High Mobility Prototype," was similar in many respects to Zeonic's Prototype Gouf, including the advantageous new leg thrusters to make possible jet-assisted jumps. Eight units were built for testing, but their cost proved too high for the limited increase in performance they demonstrated, and its development was later merged into Zeonic's Prototype Gouf development program, with the eight YMS-08As eventually being relegated to combat duty.
