Technical and Historical Notes

While the Zeonic Company was developing their YMS-07A Prototype Gouf to replace the aging MS-06J Zaku II during the One Year War, Zimmad Company was also working on their own competing land combat mobile suit design. Their YMS-08A, known simply as the High Mobility Test Type, was similar in many respects to Zeonic's Prototype Gouf, including the advantageous new leg thrusters that allowed jet-assisted jumps. Five units were built for testing, but their cost proved too high for the limited increase in performance they demonstrated. Its development was later merged into Zeonic's Prototype Gouf development program, with the five YMS-08As eventually being relegated to combat duty.
